This camera gets low marks for "White Balance" ease of use. Results are "inconsistent".

A much more reliable way is to change saving images in camera from JPEG to RAW format. Using the included Sigma Photo Pro (SPP) RAW converter that is provided on a CD-ROM (the software can also be downloaded from the Sigma Website) with the camera, makes adjusting the white balance much easier. The downside is that is an additional step that must be done on a computer instead of getting pictures straight out of the camera. The upside is the huge amount of control you get by shooting RAW in the editing mode on the computer. You can read more about JPEG vs RAW here. Outside of shooting RAW, there's little to be done about poor white balance IN the camera.

White Balance is not a setting that can ever be turned off, it is simply your camera's way of telling what is white so that it can process colors correctly. You can however adjust the white balance manually or simply set it to auto. Auto white balance usually works great and I would highly recommend using it. To adjust your white balance, here are the steps:


1) Press the menu button. scroll using your arrow pad to the WB option and then press the Control Button.

2) This should bring up your white balance selection screen. Keep in mind that if your camera is in full auto ( the dial is set to the camera icon ) you will not be able to adjust your white balance.

Here are the possible causes and the solutions for each:

Cause 1: The most common cause of the tint in the images is White Balance. It is possible that you have set the wrong White Balance. Since you are getting a blue tint, you might have set the white balance to 'Incandescent' (Tungsten) or 'Flash'. Changing the white balance to Auto. Most White Balance problems get eliminated by this. For this, press WB on the mode dial and use the command dial to change the values.

Cause 2: The unwanted casts could also be due to the in-camera processing. To check this, Select 'Set Picture Controls' from the Shooting menu. From the four options, select one that gives the minimum processing-- that is, either Neutral (which gives minimal processing) or Standard (It gives slight enhancements, but the tones will be balanced).

Cause 3: It is also possible that the White Balance of your camera has been tweaked. So if the above steps do not solve the issue, try tweaking the white balance to your liking. For this, press WB and use the sub command dial (the dial in front of the camera near the Shutter Release button). Check the result each time you change the value until you are satisfied with the result. As a guide, the ideal values of different settings are: Daylight (direct sunlight): 5200; Incandescent: 3000; Flash: 5400; Cloudy: 6000; Shade: 8000 etc...

all digital cameras and camcorders have whats called a built in
"white balance meter",,,and yours is not working right,,,
the white balence meter is to let the camera see what colour light its seeing in,,,, the colour temperature of sun light on a bright sunny day is 6600 begrees kelvin,,, in an electric light buld is about its about 3500 degrees kelvin or less? if you took a photo in sunlight the camera sees anything white in the photo "as white" and is happy to print it as white,, but in electric light buld it sees "white" as "red" this is due to the drop in colour temperature, your eyes can also see this (but your brain has its own white balance meter built in) what the white balance meter will do is change what it records or see's to take out the red and make it look white insted,,by changing the clolur temprature of the light its taking the photos in try this out,,,
take a white sheet of paper,, go out side on a sunny day and take a photo of it,,, if its not white and it looks a bit red its the white balence meter playing up in the camera,,,

I am not sure why you are asking but here is what I know. Your old 440 with a 727 trans is balanced by the torque converter. If you have a balance problem the weight on the torque converter probably came off. If you remove the cover and turn the flywheel with a pry bar, you will come to a butterfly or bar weight. If it is mission you will see (I think) two spot where the spot weld held it on. It is possible to find the right one on an old TC and take the weight off it and weld it on yours in the car. I use to do it in the 80's and early 90's but don't see them much anymore.

actually i want to ask u that when you are doing white balance is your camcorder in recording mode ?
if, yes then dear camcorder will not take white balance in recording mode .. make itin stand by mode and then do white balance by keeping a white paper in front of the camcorder at least two meter away ok.

You should set the white balance to an appropriate setting. For outdoors, or indoors with flash, auto +-0 should be adequate. For indoor work without flash, try the incandescent (light bulb symbol) or fluorescent (strip light symbol) if you don't like the results from auto.

The following White balance settings are available for the A1: AUTO, Preset (Daylight, Tungsten, Fluorescent, Shade, Cloudy, Flash and Custom1 to 3) The following slight adjustment is possible: * At setting Daylight, Tungsten, Shade, Cloudy and Flash: +3 to -3 (one unit is approximately equal to a 10 mired shift.) *At fluorescent lamp setting: equivalent to 7 fluorescent lamp(3 -wavelength colored fluorescent bulb, 3 wavelength white fluorescent lamp, 3 -wavelength neutral white fluorescent lamp, 3-wavelength daylight fluorescent lamp, white fluorescent, neutral white fluorescent, daylight fluorescent lamp)
