Last night we had a power outage, it lasted 8 hours. The HP media center m7060n, is connected to a powers surge protector, but today I tried to switch it on and nothing, not even a light on the power switch. The back of the computer has a flickering green light when the power cable is attached, this stops eventually when that is removed. There is no movement from the fan or noise at all when i do try to power up.
OK FIRST A POWER SURGE PROTECTOR WILL ONLY PROTECT YOU 7 % OF THE TIME, WHICH YOU JUST REALIZED. SO YOU NEED TO BUY A BATTERY BACKUP ALSO KNOWN AS A UPS.... I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. BRING YOUR PC TO BEST BUY AND THEY WILL TEST YOUR POWER SUPPLY, IF IT TESTS OUT OK THEN YOU BLEW SOMETHING IN YOUR MOTHERBOARD. GET A BATTERY BACKUPS/UPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes indeed thanks for the advice peanut. I called theGeek squad at Bestbuy and they wanted $300-500 to do the work if it was the psu(which HP would ship to me for 55), so after I picked myself up off the floor, I called circuit city and spoke to the firedog guys (who my friend has used with much satisfaction)and they have said 40 for the new PSU ( if that is what is needed) and $30 to install it. Am thinking even if it is something more I will take it to the folk who were honest from the getgo ..lol..
In addition to my comment regarding the fee, I just cannot fathom why there would be such a huge difference in a fee from one place to another, it baffled me, as I bought my pc from Bestbuy and as soon as I said it was about 2 yrs old and no warranty remained, out came that huge sum quote.
HP tech had literally told me to self install and they would send me the part out. But I thought I was doing the sensible thing having it installed by professionals at the place of original purchase.
