I purchased one cordless telephone (Siemens Gigaset) in Germany. I also had the same problem, caller-id did not work. I purchased this telephone because we can set different ringtones for different caller groups. But, if caller-id doesn't work, this feature also doesn't work. I had gone through internet and finally found that CA electronics, Bangalore has it and got it through courier (I live in Pondicherry). It worked flawlessly for two years. Then it stopped working. For 'no reason' I ordered for a 'caller-id' unit on ebay for Rs.75/- (+ Rs.75 shipping). I just got the unit and fixed it to my line. Very very surprisingly, my cordless telephone is now showing caller info. This is a real surprise to me. By the way, caller-id unit is "Eurotel" make, DTMF/FSK caller-id. I feel this is very nice solution. The 'caller-id' unit is nice (backlit display) and also there is no need of converter for using the caller-id feature of your foreign telephone. I connected caller-id between the line and telephone. That's all. Enjoy.
Yes you can get stand alone caller ID units, they simply plug into the main line in phone jack. BTW, If you have a modem in your PC you can also then use it as a telephone "anything" Call center, answer-phone, voice-mail, and of course Caller ID. A lot of the software is freeware available on the 'net for download and install.
The caller id information is sent from your local telco provider after the first ring and might not be able to be extended to the individual sets, try backing off the ring to answer on your voice mail from 2 to 3 rings to see if the information is then passed on. The Voice Messaging System message is being sent from the system showing who transfered the call to you. You should also notice that the ring pattern when that message is displayed is a standard ring followed by a beep meaning a transfer is taking place.
It depends on the version of partner ACS/ partner plus you have.If your version is after 4.0 it should do a two line caller ID. 3.0 and before you can program a button to toggle from number to name. thats done by pressing the feature key followed by 00, pressing the button you wish to program as clid name and entering feature 16, press feature 00 when finished.
hope that helps
