  1. Rotate the wheel so the valve is resting just above the floor. Remove the valve cap.

  2. Unscrew the locking nut on the valve stem. Quickly press down the stem to loosen the seal. You should hear air escaping when the stem is pushed in--if you do not, loosen the nut and try again.
  3. Press the pump head onto the valve and flip the locking lever to make a seal. You'll hear air escape, but it should stop after you've locked the lever. If air continues to leak out, remove the pump head and reattach it.
  4. Make two pump strokes and listen for air moving into the tire. If the pump handle becomes hard to press down after only a few strokes, or if the pressure gauge elevates extremely quickly, remove the pump head and repeat Step 3.
  5. Inflate the tire to its recommended pressure. Remove the head by unlocking its lever and quickly pulling it off the valve stem. Secure the valve's locking nut and cap.

You don't need to release air pressure to pump up the tire. If you have tubes with "presta" valve stems you need to unscrew the knurled nut on the end of the stem before inflating the tire. Presta stems also require the correct type of fitting on the end of the pump hose.

You are most likely using the pump set up to work with a Schrader valve when you should be using it with the internals set up to work with a Presta valve. HOW TO USE
Flip the lever on the valve end out (perpendicular) and secure the pump onto the tire valve, making sure it goes all the way in, then flip the lever down flat agains the pump. This should secure it so if you pull on it, the pump doesn't go anywhere and no air comes out. It looks like the handle flips out to make it easier to pump. Now pump up the tire until it starts looking full and check the pressure. A pressure guage is recommended. Lift the lever again to release (you may have to tap it off of the tire valve) when you're done.
Make sure you have the correct pump for the valve. There are two types of valve: presta, which is long and skinny, mostly used on higher end road bikes, and schrader (which you probably have) is the common type you'll see on a wide range of bikes. Your pump should fit a schrader.

I have the DX, and I only use it for Presta valves. With mine, the lever is down to insert it onto the valve, and up for inflation. On yours, the head probably unscrews, and the black rubbery piece the grabs the (Schraeder) valve might be inserted wrong-side out. It's easy to remove this piece and put it back in the other way. This might be the problem. Be careful to do this over a clear area, as the pin in the pump might fall out. If it does, no big deal, just put it back in. Probably stating the obvious, but make sure the pump is seated on the valve stem all the way. Good luck!

They should be designed to fit both styles of valve, but you need to reverse the seal.
you should be able to unscrew the end, remove the sealing rubber and a plastic fitting that pushes on the valve, replace them the opposite way around ,and they will fit the presta.

Just bought a Topeak mini masterblaster and cannot get it to pump up my back tyre which has presta valve. It is fine on the front tyre which has a schrader valve.
Change the internal parts of the head to adapt to the valve type you're using.
