First of all what is your printer model and manufacturer? What is your computer's operating system? What program/application are you using when printing?
If you are using windows xp or any Microsoft windows operating system, try to print from notepad to check if this happens as well from a generic windows application.
Click Start > Run > type in the box notepad then press ok
from there type a couple of lines about 10 - 15

and check if the issue occurs. If it occurred as well in notepad then it is just a format setting in your application.

Thanks for your comments. As a result I have now identified that this problem occurs in every other line of typed text notepad as well. It doesn't occur when printing pages off the web.
The printer is HP Photosmart C3180 and I use Vista.
