My RP 5012B Voice Recorder spent the weekend in a suitcase where it was probably left on and therefore the battery died. But when I changed the battery, nothing comes up in the screen and nothing else work, or beeps. BUT the little red light on the top does come on. And idea how to reset this thing? Or is there any other way to make it work? Or is there a way to extract the recordings I do have on it?

No. I tried that first. (I just tried it again.) Nothing - the screen still stays blank.. and the tiny red lights still stays on... until I take out the batteries.

It is possible the unit is just "locked". Try holding the MENU button for at least 2 seconds to see if it "activates" the player.

Please try this and let me know, there is not really a way to get the recordings off the device so I hope we can get it back on for you.

Just reply to my answer here and I will be right back with you.

Thanks,
Tim

Ok the last bastion of hope would be to attach an AC adapter to the recorder to try and get it jump started. You can get one at Radio Shack, they will help you find the appropriate one, any "universal" one will work it just needs to be 3V and 200mA which they will also know just by looking at the player, but bring the info just in case.

If it doesn't work you can also just return the AC Adapter.

I have an RCA Digital Voice Recorder Model No: RP 5015A I noticed when I have the AVR activated and the battery dies after being on for so long... It still saves the file that it was recordig on, but it...

This model saves audio files to internal memory therefore it seems everytime it drains battteries out it loses the data. Consider a new model with Memory Card or buy normal batteries that drain out after 12-15 months or Duracell precharged rechargeable ion batteries they say last 5 years.

How do i unlock a rca digital recorder model rp 5020a? I have tried holding down the menu button but does not work.

Hello,
Normally, by pressing and holding the menu button down will lock and unlock the recorder. Since this is not working for you, you can unlock it by opening the battery compartment on the backside of the device and removing one of the batteries and then placing the battery back in and closing back the compartment. This will unlock the device also allowing you to use the functions. When I took the battery out for a split second it did not erase my test recording, but leaving the battery out for a long period of time may erase anything you have saved. I just wanted to make you aware of that. If you need an owners manual you can click the following link which will open in a pdf format for RCA Digital Voice Recorder Model # RP 5020A. I hope this helps solve your problem.

If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You.

RCA RP 5012B digital recorder

It is not possible to download the sound files in their digital forms with this model of recorder. The only way to transfer the recordings is to connect a male-to-male 3.5mm (1/8") plug from the recorder to the line input of the PC (as was formerly mentioned) and record it onto the PC in real time. I've done this with mine and it works fine...it just takes longer to do than tranferring the actual digital file to the PC. A good MP3 recorder for the PC is Audio Record Wizard. http://www.nowsmart.com/arwizard/

The full version costs $25, but I think it's worth it.
