I have epson stylus photo R230X model printer the paper and ink idicators are blinking continuesly the head carriage is moving smoothly but at last moment when it is about to reach at orginal position an inch or so before it stops and starts blinking kindly help

I think you have two problems.
1. Yes, the carriage is locked. There may be ink built up around it causing the catch to be stuck. When you first power the printer up, it will try to unlatch the head assembly to test motion. If you can catch it during that period and pull the plug again, you can clean.

2. Lights flashing alternately often mean that the printer has "parts at the end of their life". This means that the ink absorption pads in the bottom of the case may be full. Epson is pretty conservative with these, and you can usually get away with resetting them at least once before they leak all over your table.

hello, I have found this that may help you:
"remove any paper in the printer. Press the load/eject button for about 30 seconds. Then press it again. Turn off the printer, wait a few seconds and turn it on and try printing again".

Try to turn on your printer without the ink cartridges. When the printer starts and ask for the cartridges, put them back in.

(To remove the cartridges turn on the printer, watch the print head carriage move, when it is at the center quickly unplug the power cable, move the carriage by hand to a position where you can remove the cartridges, after removing the cartridges push the carriage to the right where it should be parked.)

Asit is only a couple of months old seek a replacement under guarantee/warranty.

Either press the ink button once to move the carriage to the left position, then press it again to move the carriage to the ink change position, Or use the SSC software and select move head to change position. Either should work on that printer.

Ink and paper light on : head carriage error/general error. Head can't move extremely to right : head carriage blocked or CR motor error. Turn of printer, unlock head carriage lock. Move head left and back to right (to parking position). Is it move freely?

General error : head carriage error / chip not recognized. Head carriage can't move freely. Just turn off for about 1 hour, turn on again without ink tank. Plug ink tank.

Try unplugging the unit and then plugging it back in. When you first power it up, it should do an initial system check, which involves moving the print head. Unplug the unit the moment the print head is in a position to change the cartridge. I did this with my old Canon when I had the same problem and it worked. Hope it works for you too.
