I have a Cf-51 that I bought that was a corporate computer sold on ebay. I had to buy battery hard drive and ac adapter. has no wireless adapter in it and can"t get LAn active. It also shows 1394 net adapter but can't seem to get info on how to use it. I think it has a ethenet adapter in it but shows under other devices in device manager with no name or drivers. is also missing audio, smart card vga and modem drivers. not able to find alot of help on anasonic site. Any ideas

Yes, I see they are sold with long and short connectors. Numbers 1 and 3 are long and 2 is short.

If your computer has a USB-slot or a PCMCIA-slot, then it is capable of using a USB-to-wireless adapter stick, or a PCMCIA-to-wireless adapter-card.

Look on eBay -- find the model-number on the current battery, and search on eBay, being sure to search both "body" and "title" of eBay listings, to find "compatible" batteries.

Listen carefully to the HDD bay of the CF-51, If the "Clicking" sound is coming from that area then it is possible that the hard drive is failing causing the whole laptop to freeze up.

If that is the case then you're looking at a new or replacement hard drive.

It seems to be a "dead" motherboard -- very expensive to replace.

Can you return the battery to the store, explaining that your computer died?

Failing that, try to sell the brand-new battery on eBay (or CraigsList.org)

Separately, try to sell the AC adapter on eBay.

Remove the disk-drive from the computer,
and give it (and the files that it contains) back to your friend.

Separately, try to sell the laptop "for parts" on eBay.
Somebody may want to buy the LCD screen & the CD/DVD drive & the wireless adapter, and would take the whole laptop, in order to "scavenge" those components.

So try that out. I just got a toughbook cf-51 and will try it soon myself. Mine came with an XP reg code so maybe that can run from a virtual machine inside of linux.
My advice is to resist the urge to drop yours onto cement from a couple of feet. Not quite that tough.
The hard drive caddy is "the catch", for certain.
Too lazy to look into what the hdd connector is for that, maybe there's a cable or converter somewhere.

Go to Panasonic Website and Download the Video Drivers. If there is more then 1 Driver, Don't Worry cause ONLY THE CORRECT 1 WILL INSTALL. Hope This Helps!...

Sounds like your HDD is on its last legs.

To fix. Back up all data to your computer using one of the many tools to copy music from the iPod to the computer.

Order The CF card adapter from ebay. This will allow you to use a compact flash card in place of the hard disk. They can be bought up to 64GB. It will not matter which one you use as the iPod will still recognise it.

Remove the back cover. (Plenty of guides on the net on how.) just be careful not to tear the battery ribbon cable when seperating the 2 halves.

Remove the old drive and recycle it please. Install the CF adapter where the hard drive was. Install the CF card into the adapter. Secure it the the adapter with a bit of sellotape so the card does not slide out during use.

Reinstall the back cover.

Plug the iPod into the computer.
Itunes will say that the ipod will need to be restored ---> Click yes.

Your done!! Fill it up with music again and enjoy the benefits of a lighter player that will last longer.

It sounds like the battery has gone bad. This happens with Lithium Ion Batteries. It is common for them to no longer hold charge and they must be replaced.

The drive is slotted into the left hand front of the laptop. If you turn the laptop upside down you will see 2 slider buttons. 1 is used to remove the battery and he other is to remove the hard disk. You push and hold the button and slide the hard disk out.
