There are several methods to transfer music from your PC to iPod:
Method 1: Via iTunes. Add music from PC to iTunes library first. Connect your iPod to PC, and then sync with iTunes. Make sure you have backed up your iPod music, because it will erase all music on your iPod before syncing.
Method 2: Via third party program like iTransfer. Connect your iPod to computer. And simply click "Add Files" to import music from folder on your PC to iPod library directly.
Method 3: Via cloud server like Dropbox. Upload music on your PC and then sign in the same account on Dropbox app on your iPod. Download the uploaded music.

IPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes:

1. Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synched to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, iTunes will offer to choose a selection of songs to sync to iPod.
2. Automatically update selected playlists. With this option, iTunes automatically copies only the playlists you have selected to iPod when you connect it to the computer. This option can be selected by accessing the Music tab of the iPod settings.
3. Manually manage music. You can also choose to transfer music to iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to iPod. You can find this option by accessing the Summary tab of the iPod settings.

If the number of songs on your computer exceeds the capacity of the iPod, Apple's "AutoFill" feature within iTunes will select the number of songs, audiobooks, and podcasts that fit on the iPod as directed by the user or at random.

You can also configure your iPod to appear as a hard drive on the desktop -- with the exception of the iPod touch models (although third-party software like site sponsor TouchCopy is available) -- and manually drag files of any type to the iPod. Music files copied to the iPod in this way won't play on the iPod, without first copying them to a computer and importing them into iTunes, but this is useful for backing up or transporting any type of file. Please refer to "Using Your iPod as a Storage Drive" and "Putting iPod Into Disk Mode" from the Apple Support Site for more information.

Transferring songs from old library to a new one

I don't have an ipod, but do you not just connect it to your pc, open ituned, select the songs from your ipod THROUGH itunes - drag and drop them into your library and they should copy. When finished, eject your old ipod and connect the new one. Drag and drop the songs from itunes into the new iPod.

Again I'm not sure if this is correct, but this is how most things function in itunes. If not, someone correct me.

IPOD ? playlist backup

If your IPOD is set to automatic song transfer, and you created an ?on the go? playlist, the IPOD will automatically transfer all songs along with the playlist. I haven?t tried the following myself yet, but this is the only way that I can think of: Cancel the auto transfer option ? from the source list in itunes choose the iPod icon and press on the options button. Choose ?manually manage songs and playlists? If it doesn?t work then I guess its more of a one directional thing, that you get more options going from the PC to the iPod then the other way around.
