It's very hard to troubleshoot software problems online, and it likely is a software issue. But why put up with the headaches of bad software in the first place? As a solution I highly recommend that you forego the old cable to the camera route, and instead consider a card reader to download your photos to your computer. this is not a big issue.
after delting your DISK and installing your OS again removes al r programs from your computer. now you must install the camera EOS software in your system again.
this can be done by using the software disk which come with the camera. even if you dont have the disk the software can be donwloaded from canons site itself.
