Sharp Projector XR-10X/XR-10S

We replaced our lamp thinking it was bad - we reset the projector and after many attempts it finally worked. The lamp is good but does not seem to be warming up or being engaged after turning on projector. We followed reset procedures, but nothing.... Help! we must be up ASAP!!

  • coth-pastor Jun 11, 2008

Went through these procedures previously to include reset procedures according to manual. Mind you we purchased a new lamp thinking it was the problem, and perhaps its not. The sound that engages the lamp once heated does not sound the same as it did when the unit was working properly. Is there some defect in this projector, because others seem to have experinced similar problems with the lamp unit?

  • coth-pastor Jun 11, 2008

When I turn on the unit the light is red then it goes to green. then two lights green and one blinking indicating lamp being heated or engaged, then after lamp failing to engage, the lights blink red and green, finally finishing with two red lights.... Is this what you meant?

What colour is the lamp indicator? And are you sure the machine is not in standby mode?

Also make sure that the lamp is seated properly and the contacts are clean. Also try a hard reset: Unplug the projector from the AC supply and other devices for about 10 minutes. Then, connect to external equipment and AC power before switching on. See if this helps and let me know.

BTW, how were you attempting to reset the device?

  • Anonymous Jun 10, 2008

Also, I hope you haven't unplugged the machine while it is on or the cooling fan is operating, or it could damage the device..

If you go through pages 48-52 in the PDF manual posted by kevin000, you should find a couple of troubleshooting steps there as well as the correct way to replace the lamp..

  • Anonymous Jun 11, 2008

According to the manual, that indicates that the lamp is shut down abnormally or requires to be changed.
Have you made sure that you replaced with a lamp of correct specifications? It should be AN-XR20LP/AN-XR10LP.

Also make sure that you have reset the lamp timer. Here is a pic from the manual giving instructions:

Is the an- xr20lp and an-xr10lp the same lamp or does one have more hours than the other, what is the difference?

the xr20lp is 275W, 2300 lumens
the xr10lp is 220W, 2000 lumens
see spec at
http://www.sharp-world.com/products/data_projector/xr20xs/spec.html
They seem to be compatible as some sellers are selling the 275W version for the XR10X.

Sharp XR-10X/XR-10S - CAN'T FIND THE RESET BUTTON

Hi, I just opened my Sharp xr-10x DLP projector today, which had no power, no lights, no functions. A previous post worked for me...Remove the 6 screws on the bottom of the unit (you'll need a longer phillips) and the two screws on the back, toward the top of the unit. Obviously, be sure to keep these handy for reassembly (I have two curious dogs and a 4 year old to contend with). Then, to remove the housing...use a std screwdriver and slightly pry the cover off from the rear of the unit. This should losen allowing you to pivot the cover forward and then off from the projector lens. If you need to reset your unit, the reset button is near the lamp, not the lens (to the side of the lens). It is a small red button--depress this. Next, you can connect the ac cord and try powering up the unit. For me, I got a blinking red light but could not power up the unit. I then opened up the lamp compartment on the bottom of the unit (2 srcews) and remove the lamp. Next reconnect the lamp...when doing so, make sure the two prongs fit the lamp--this is the power supply. Then replace the lamp cover and retest the unit. At this point, my projector powered up as it used to. Finally replace the projector cover...from the lens then backward. Tighten all screws and you, hopefully will be ready to use the projector again.

Keep in mind, your problem may be the need for a replacement fuse or lamp. The fuse should be available at an electric supply shop or a Radio Shack store. I have seen replacement lamps for $190-$275 available online.

Good Luck...Hope this helps you out. As I said, I just completed this process myself today and am happy to have avoided the shipping costs and $65 diagnostic fee + labor and parts to have Sharp repair this. We are looking forward to 'movie night' on the 8' screen tonight! Hopefully, you'll be enjoying your projector soon!

New bulb in now wont work - no power - wont turn on to reset lamp

first, make sure you have the correct lamp. the lamp for the xr-10x-l looks like the xr-10x, but the plugs are different (common mistake). make sure you have the AN-XR10L2/1, not the AN-XR10LP/1. to reset the lamp timer (with the projector plugged in but off), hold down the enter, down arrow, and menu buttons and press the power.

Sharp XR 10X lamp replacement issues

I sent mine in. They changed the bulb and cleaned the unit. The one thing they did suggest that seemed helpful was to upgrade the firmware. They did this as part of the service. That may be your problem, but I don't know that the firmware is upgradable. Yes indeed, they do charge an outrageous price!! I went through Sharp because they would guarantee the work, and I didn't want to buy two bulbs.
