We have a danby 12000 btu,the problem we have is that the AC is not working since the red light is always flashing. both external and internal water tanks are empty,no water in it,and as mentioned in the manuel we re-positioned the internal tank but useless,even that small screw at the bottom back we remove it to see if any water will come from inside,no water came out,and the red light always flashing.
if any body can give me a hint on how to make it turned off in order that the AC will work.
PS: last summer it was functioning well,only this summer when we tried to use it,this problem occurs.
Ok I found a temporary solution. I opened up the unit (yes there are a lot of screws) I checked the float switches and they worked and even unplugging the water level wire connection to the main board did not get rid of the red flashing light. But if you unplugged the connection from the front panel to the main board but leave the infrared remote still plugged in the main lights and control are not on but you can still work the unit by remote. When in this configuration the compressor will come on and the unit will cool. So I think that part of the problem is on the front panel circuit board or maybe somewhere on the main board. But physically the compressor/relay/ switches work. A short term solution until I can get a new board.

Do NOT mess withat the switch in the removable tank activated by float UNTIL you drain out the machine as per jameswill248. I just lay mine on its side to ensure that everything drained.
It appears that the red light is not just the full tank float switch, it is also a water sensor elsewhere in the bottom of machine.
If you bypass (short) the full tank switch, the device only runs for 10 minutes and then the red light comes on again because of the other water sensor. I did this and now I have another job ahead of me putting the full tank switch back in. And one of those teeny nuts fell into the machine.
Float switch problem for internal tank. Cut the two wires that lead to the switch and twist them together. Your internal tank limit will no longer function, however the tank has remained dry for over 3 years so eliminating the switch will not be an issue.
I had the same problem. You have to drain the machine from the bottom back drain. Not the drain on the back, but the drain on the very back bottom of the machine. I drained mine and it fixed all of my problems.
I am not very familiar with these units, but it seems that there should be a float of some kind to warn you of a possibly overflowing pan. If there is one it may just have seized in the up position sending the signal that it is full.
If all else fails try finding a Danby service center or utilize the 18 month warranty that it came with.

I also see the toggle float switch that triggers when the internal tank gets full and I can manually press this switch and still the red light is still flashing. Is there some way to reset the red flashing light?

how do you get the bottom back drain part off??? the 2 things that look like they can be turned, cant...ive unscrewed everything and STILL cant remove the back piece

Unscrew the back drain caps (2) and you have to use your body to tilt the unit at a 90 degree angle to force the water to drain out. The water doesnt just flow out unless you phycially tilt the machine. Make sure you have a bowl/bucket underneath to catch the water. This was a huge help trying to get it back in working condition.
