To ilysurita, cj_mom, top_shutta…
First can I clarify what is meant by a ‘lost password’ …. The original poster here is asking about the password needed to login to the router configuration pages.
If you know the password to login to the router configuration pages, you can still get access to the
network key (also known as passphrase, WPA or WEP key, PSK, pre-shared key) – which is the key Windows asks for to connect a new computer to the network. It will be found under a heading like ‘Wireless Security’ or ‘Wireless Settings’ within the router configuration pages. For this model, you can find the router configuration pages by typing www.routerlogin.net (or .com) into a web browser, or
http://192.168.0.1 If you don’t know the username/password to login to your router, try using the defaults – for this model, they are
admin and
password.
However, if the router login username/password has been forgotten, the only way to regain access to the router configuration settings is to reset the router, as described in my posting above. I don’t know of any shortcuts to this one. :(
If you have to resort to this, you might want to wait for whoever set up the router to help with this. This is because resetting the router will remove all your settings – password, network key, ISP connection info – so you will lose your internet connection altogether until it is set up again.
On the other hand, if you’re willing to spend some time and patience, you can have a go yourself.
If you have your original setup CD this may contain a software wizard to walk you through it. If not, you might be able to download a setup wizard from the router manufacturer’s website, along with a quick installation guide (and a manual).
The Netgear site also has very clear troubleshooting and support pages which will help with setup, even if you don’t have any setup software:

Make sure you use a wired connection. Also, print off all the information you need before you begin, as you will not be able to access the internet while you are setting up the router.
Good luck whatever you decide to do
