TV picture fades, then shuts off

Samsung TXF2899c CRT TV. The set has a beautiful picture (rich color, sharp ...). BUT after the TV has been on for 30 seconds or so, the picture fades and the left side crumbles and then the picture disappears and finally the TV shuts off. If I shut it off for 10 seconds or so, before it shuts itself off, the picture comes back and plays beautifully for the rest of the day.

The TV was doing the same thing a few months ago (except that the fading happened at random times), until the picture totally died (wouldn't come on at all). The service man changed the flyback transformer and the picture came back, but when I took it home, I found the modified problem I described above, where the TV fades/shuts off after 30 seconds ... etc.

Can someone please offer some clues as to what may be causing the problem.

Thanks,

Joel

Thank you for your quick response. The TV is about 6 years old and cost about $1100. I would feel better if Samsung factory service could repair it, but apparantly they don't have a facility like that here in Montreal. Instead they have recommende service centres.

I've used one of the centres they recommend, a long time ago, for an NEC VCR - they charged for the inspection, said it would cost $$$ to fix checking the unit - took it somewhere else and they fixed it in 2 seconds for free. So I'm a bit skeptical about these recommended service centres.

There are some components in the scan amplifiers, and or the power supply area that have become unstable. This can happen with age and use. It is impossible to make an accurate assessment without actually troubleshooting the set.

You need an experienced TV service tech that is strong on troubleshooting, has the service manuals, and has the proper set-up to work on your set. I would recommend the factory service rather than an independent service tech unless you know for sure that the independent service tech can handle this type of repair.

Considering the age of the model of set that you have, I would be looking at replacing it rather than fixing it. Because of the age of the set the reliability will be decreased.

Samsung tv calibration

You're asking about the picture settings to this TV; I assume, and posts this solution. Just set it to user mode; in terms of picture; set the Color to minimum (0); Contrast = 70 ~ 75%; Brightness to 30 ~ 40%. In this way, just set a picture in Black/White first. If you see that the contrast or brightness level should be adjusted to get a good B/W picture, do it according to your viewing taste. After set this, advance the color; and compare the skin tone of a news reader at the studio.
In most cases, this must be the perfect adjustment. If you wish to get more details to picture, advance the Sharpness control. Do not set it too more. Less than 30% will be sufficient. If the broadcasting system is NTSC, you have to adjust the Hue too.

My Samsung TXS3082WH 30 inc wide screen TV seems to be losing color and going in and out and i notice when you watch cartoons its fine but when it goes to actual shows or channels with normal footage it...

There have been a lot of problems with the Samsung sets, one dealer I know had so many complaints about the ones he sold he stopped selling them and switch to another brand and he has been trouble free ever since. To answer your question they have problems with the screens, color texture, lines, fade out to name a few, from what you have described you have at least two or three issues, considering the history I would replace it.

I have a Samsung rear projection tv, the picture is faded and the colors are not crisp or clean cannot watch it like this what do you think the problem is?

If this is a CRT-type rear-projection TV, the CRT coolant fluid is probably broken down. It's supposed to be clear, but after a long period of TV operation, it turns a yellow-brown color. If you unplug the TV and remove the back, you can look into the tops of the three picture tubes. They should be a clear red, green or blue color, with no yellow-brown tint.

CRT coolant can be changed, but you need to be very good at mechanical work to do it. Besides the safety considerations (picture tubes and other parts may carry a high voltage charge even when the set is unplugged), spilling broken-down coolant on electronics is usually disastrous, so you have to be very careful.

LCD panels used in projector applications may lose contrast if they are overheated (this can be caused by failure to keep the vents clean as recommended in the owner's manual).

You would have to provide your set's model number to get more specific information.

Colors Faded in my sony KV-HA21M83A 21''

Its magnetic effect on picture tube. Power Off TV for 20-30 minutes then turn it On, hope problem will be resolved. Please also check and remove any speaker or some thing have magnet near by TV.
If color spots are still there, picture tube need to degaussed / demagnetized.

Tv shuts off

When you let it sit for approx. 15 minutes it will come back on and usually stay on. I've also noticed that the color will fade in and out at times. during 15 mts of your sitting do you get sound & less brightness then problem in video or luminance section. if picture is dim & color will fade in and out at times then possibility of crt is getting less voltage on g2. if set is old then there is a possibility of crt getting weak. but if the above things are not there then problem in power supply. good luck
