So, when the laptop is connected to the AC adapter to an electrical outlet, the laptop shuts down? And, when the laptop is using the battery, it does not? What happens if you take the battery out of the laptop and plug in the laptop with the AC adapter? Initially, I would think there is a problem with the AC adapter.

There could be two possible faults that could cause a problem like this:

First it could a short on the motherboard at the power supply connecter, which to repair would consist of taking the motherboard out of the laptop, and maybe replacing the power supply socket. It could also be a faulty componant on the motherboards power supply circuitry.

Second it could be the power supply itself, the only way to test this is to aquire a new power supply, you could take the laptop and power supply to your local pc store, explain the problem to them and ask if they could test it with a new power supply, if it works with the new power supply then you can buy it, if it dosent then you know the problem is with the motherboard. hope this helps and please post back the results, thanks.

This cart has been charging continually, and now shows 3 red lights on the battery charge area. It won't move or charge up.

There can be several reasons why you are facing this issue. You can follow the guidelines mentioned below and check if that work.

-Consider using a different power point and see if that works. If the issue is resolved, then there may be some issue with your previous power point.

If the issue still persists, try the below given steps:
-Remove the power adaptor and Battery.
-Press and keep holding the power button at least 40 seconds.
-Connect the power adaptor without fixing battery.
-Power on the laptop.
-After logon to the windows, shut down the laptop.
-Fix the battery and connect the power adaptor. Now power on the laptop again. Now check if battery indicates correct signal of charging.

If the issue still persists, check if using another power adapter (if feasible) helps. If that helps, then there may be some issue with your current power adapter, it is recommended to contact nearest service center of your laptop manufacturer.

My computer shuts down when i plug in the charger

Assuming this AC laptop charger functioned correctly at one time. Several Possibilities: (1) laptop charger has failed ... connect another compatible charger to your computer to test for this; (2) or the battery has failed ... remove battery and test if the charger plugged in directly powers the laptop.

My acer aspire 6920g will shut down automaticly when i want to log in to my system, after the boot menu the cooler is turning off for 1 second.

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a can of compressed air to do this.

After charging battery, when I press start, it attempts to start and then immediately shuts down. After recharging the battery a while, and attempting restart, the same thing happens again.

Hi

Have you tried to use your computer when power charger is connected to power supply? Then try it to check if your computer does not shut down. If do not shut down it self. You had problem with the battery or with charger not compatible with the battery. Normal problem of shutting down computer is that your battery have no charge, your battery is not compatible with your laptop or ever defective. Tr

I have a hp pavilion ze5170 laptop and it is shutting itself off for no apparent reason. anyone know what could be causing this? it doesnt appear to be software related. its not crashing just turning off.

Power drain would be a better solution in this case.
1.first shut down the comp
2.unplug the charger
3. remove the battery
and after press and hold the power button for 60 seconds without any charger and the battery. After the 60 seconds replug the battery and the charger and turn the computer

Hello my laptop isn't charging properly. It is plugged in and all of the cables are connected. There is power in the plug socket but it doesn't seem to be charging. Help!

Hi! Drain the power charges of the laptop by shutting it down and by unplugging both ac adapter (charger) and battery from the computer.

Press the power button for like 10 times while the battery and charger is disconnected to drain the power of the board.

connect back the battery first then connect the charger to the computer. Make sure that the charger is connected to a stable power outlet while charging the system.

Please leave a comment if you have any other questions.

Cheers!

My compaq presario just shuts down. When I go to

Typical reasons could be overheating and or the charger is on it's last legs. Do you have the same problems when you're using the computer with battery alone. Does the laptop feel hot?

The reason the charger is getting hot is because it's probably a 65W charger and not a 90W (that's just a guess though)

Let me know if I'm right or not.
