Cannon SD850 IS 2 months old. The lens will not close. When you turn on the camera it says lens error, restart camera
There could be a number of reasons for the lens error. ie. . sand in camera, impact damage etc. Typically the lens can be dissasembled and repaired by a competent camera repair technician. If you are certain that you did not damage the camera in any way I would send it back to canon for a warranty repair. If you however think you could have damaged it you are probably looking at around $100 to repair the camera. Hope this helps!
Hi,
I bought a canon SD 850IS before 15 months back and now i'm getting "LENS ERROR". I didnt damage by dropping down or handling roughly and also i didnt used much.when i start my camera it showing LENS ERROR.... Is there any way to fix this issue by my self or should i take to canon service center?
Please help me....
Thanks in Advance,

The Canon SD 850 has a host of issues. I experienced the lens error on the 30th day of my owning the camera and was able to get a replacement. Then, the replacement, after using just 2 times, would not start or turn on. I sent to Canon and they refused to honor the warranty saying their was water damage. It sat on a dresser, in the box, and was used only twice. They refused to do anything in regards to their so called 1 year warranty and I did not get this camera wet or even near any type of moisture. If I did, I would acknowledge that fact. You can buy earlier versions of this camera and newer versions but you cannot find this camera anymore so Canon knows they had an issue but will not stand behind their warranty.

Same problem--"lens error". I have had camera for 8 months.
my lens wont retract and when i turn it on, the screen reads lens error, restart camera. is there a reset button or something to get it to retract?
The lens on my Canon 850 IS wont retract. Message says "Lens error. Restart camera". I have removed the battery - and the film card - but problem not resolved.

my camera says lens repair
Hi! I had the same problem.Twice I was able to fix it by tapping the body of the camera on my bed. No luck the third time. I sent it back to Canon and they wanted to charge me 134 dollars to fix it. I know I didn't do anything wrong! Clearly, Canon has a faulty product and will not stand behind it.
If you have the same problem, I found two websites that are compiling people's complaints. Perhaps for evidence in a class action suit, perhaps to vent. You should add a note too!

Same problem for me.....no drop or anything like that. I used this camera Canon sd 850IS) about every day since I got it 9 months ago. Now it says "lens error, restart camera" and will not function.
Lens error. Restart camera
The SD850 is prone to this issue having researched this error. I as well have this issue with my SD850. I won't spend $100 on it because I can get a comparable camera for not that much more. Too bad Canon released such a faulty camera:( I won't by another Canon because of this.
I also get the "Lens error, restart camera" message when I turn on my Canon SD850 IS. Mine is already past the warranty, so I guess it's time to buy a new camera.
