Windows xp-winchat not working

Since this is a Server, rather than an ordinary Desktop computer, it is not designed to work with normal Windows XP Operating Systems. It is designed to work specifically with Windows, Unix and Linux Server Applications. See here:

There are 2 things you can try.

You can try installing the LAN/Ethernet Drivers for the various Windows Server versions from the above official HP Downloads and Drivers Support Website and see if one of them just happens to coincidentally be compatible with XP SP2.

Assuming there are no further compatibility issues between other Server Motherboard Devices and Win XP SP2 Drivers, you could open the Server case and either bypass any on-board LAN/Ethernet/NIC Port or remove any separate LAN/Ethernet/Network Card installed and install, instead, a pre-confirmed Win XP compatible LAN/Ethernet/NIC Card and then install the drivers for the new card.

go to internet connection, right click on lan and select properties and go to tcp/ip and restore to default (automatic)

I use HFS its something called a http file server, its really useful, i use it to transfer files from my pc to my ps3, instructions come with it and its really easy to use

You don't need to install, just run the .exe file, once the window opens just drag the files you want into the window
to access the files from another pc or device just put your specific ip into the addrss bar i.e http://192.68.2.198

Have you tried to copy the compressed folder from the disc to your computer desktop and open it there? Give that a try and see if it works.... I have had this happen to a couple customers at work and I just copied the folder from the disc onto the desktop, opened it there and re-installed it. Or you could also try a repair install of the OS but it does carry the possibility of losing your data and programs.

I think you are suffering from a severe virus infection. Try the following steps will improve the health of your computer

1. you should have different partition for OS and data
2. reinstall the antivirus
3. get a disc of the windos Xp sp2 and with that in drive type sfc/scannow

just follow these steps

right click on my computer & click properties>> go to hardware>> device manager>> click on network adepters>> select your ethernet card (lan card) right click on it. select the option uninstall >> a window will show that r u sure u want to delete this driver click yes over there. then on the top of the device manager window click on action >>select scan for hardware changes. in a just a few sec the system will reinstall the driver for ur lan card. it will start working fine. in case if it doesn't work u have to use the static ip in ur lan card. for that just go to control panel>> click on network connection>> right click on network adepter>> click properties >> select internet protocol version 4 TCP/IP then click on properties >> put the dot on use the following ip address then type the ip the ip address (like these 192.168.0.2 ) on ip address on subnet mask it will be 255.255.255.0 on default gateway it will be ur routers ip address (like 192.168.0.1) on dns use the routers ip address again then just hit ok there u go ur problem is solved.

If not done allready, setup the lan IP address and default gateway in win98 Click MyComputer-ControlPanel-Network-Double Click TCP/IP Adapter for your 3com device-insert LAN info for IP Adress-subnet mask, Gateway and your Internet service providors DNS Addresses info Tab's (3x different Tabs "IP Adress" "Gateway" "DNS Configuration") IP Adress will be at least one number higher than your gateway address and not allready being used by other PC's on your network and gateway address will same as your router interface address subnet mask will be the same for all PC's on your network. For 3com and Netgear routers LAN setup is usually Gateway = 192.168.1.1 Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0 IP Adress = 192.168.1.10(choose alternate number than 10 if allready used by another PC on your network, try to use round numbers, must be a number higher than 1) Once all info is entered click OK (this may trigger a database info update message and task)now your LAN is setup and ready to talk to your network Restart PC and try browsing again. May possibly require reinstallation of the TCP/IP client (you double clicked this to setup your LAN in Win98) or reinstallation of the IIS(Internet Information Services)component found in, Add/Remove Programs-Add/Remove windows components and then try LAN setup again if this does not work first time round
