Sears Kenmore 1168280 (Old machine not used much)

Sewing a pillow case and suddenly the needle won't move --- at all. With pliers broke needle, removed fabric. The large wheel which runs the needle etc. won't budge. The bobbin feature works. To engage this feature, have to unlock wheel. All that is fine. Just the needle won't move. Any ideas? Thanks. Lisa

needle moves fabric won't and have to use a lot of force to move it when sewing

I just got a used Kenmore 15008, could not move clutch wheel, motor straining and not moving it. Bobbin area is clear. Took it apart, clutch wheel off, bottom panel, and used liquid wrench on anything I could reach. Motor runs ok, without clutch engaged but needle does not go up and down unless I use a pliers on the rod inside the hand wheel, using a lot of force. It may have been seized up. Any suggestions or adjustments?

Untangle any mess under and around the needleplate very gingerly trimming threads as you go if necessary....remove and clear.

Undo the needle clamp and remove the remains of the needle.

Open the door for the bobbin and bobbin case and undo the clips holding the hook in place......don't force anything, just ease any tangle loose slowly.

You may want to take a photo of how it goes back together if unfamiliar, or lay the bits out sensibly, so you can replace easily later.

Inside the bobbin/hook area is the most likely region for thread jamming the motion of everything, so make sure all is clear and clean, then.......

Without replacing the bobbin or hook, test the handwheel after cleaning before re-assembly.

You may also want to check the take-up crank for thread jams........the small arm in the top cover that moves up/down to "take-up" the top thread has a cam attached to the top shaft and often tangles thread around the shaft, open the L side cover to access.......remove thread by unwinding handwheel manually ....again be patient and careful not to break threads.

Best Wishes

How to fix sears kenmore sewing machine 158.950 needle landing on bobbin case?

Make sure you are using a brand new needle and that it is installed with the flat side facing the correct direction. If there is still a problem, your machine may be out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service. It could need some additional adjustment if the needle bar may be out of position.

Needle **** screw is jammed

Perhaps your clamp screw is too tight. Remember, "lefty-loosy, righty-tighty". Take your pliers and turn left or take it to a repair-person.

My juki hzl35z will not pick up the bobbin thread suddenly! Help!

Upper thread breaks
needle may be in backwards
Raise the needle bar to the highest point, then loosen the clamp screw to remove the old needle, place the new needle in the clamp with the flat side to the back of the machine
round needle--the groove in the needle should face away from the shaft.
Push the needle all the way up to the stop or as far as it will go, then tighten the needle clamp screw
upper tension may be to tight
the needle may be bent or damaged
thread may be hanging up in bobbin case--check area for loose threads or lint

Sounds like the timing adjustment of the bobbin case has been upset. Have that checked, it involves an adjustment on the gear that drives the bobbin case.

Needle Size.

I usually use Kenmore needles. I bought my machine through Sears and was told the needles were compatible. Otherwise I get the appropriate size for my fabric weight at JoAnn Fabric. As long as it has a flat back it will work fine.

Fabric not feeding and jamming occurs

When this happens it is because the thread tension was not right so it gets stuck under the bobbin case and the feed dogs. Use a bigger lint brush and take out the bobbin casing and clean out the shuttle. When you rethread pull slightly on the thread before you feed it through the needle. This will make sure the thread is properly in the tension discs.
