I have a Whirlpool Accubake oven (SF362LXSS0) that doesn't seem to be consistently turning on, and the problem's getting worse. ... If its lighting with the panel and baffle removed, but now with them installed, but you get a heavy gas smell its likely the gas mixture is too rich (i.e. the covers are too tight, gas pressure pushes all air away from burner so only gas and very little air occupies the space above the burner and its too rich to light, oxygen starved.) Not an issue when the covers are removed, so it lights fine. Try adjusting the burne for less gas an more air, see what happens.

sounds like the insulation on the cord has been worn through and is shorting out. turn off the breaker pull out the oven and look where the cord goes into the oven and look for black burn marks.

there should be an adjustable air shroud around the burner tube
for safety sake and to ensure that what you suggest is the real problem and not a symptom, get in gas fitter to diagnose the fault

Instructions

1. Access the burners inside your oven by removing the access panel in the front of the oven or by opening the broiling drawer, depending on your particular model.
   
2. Determine if the pilot itself is lit, since some ovens have a small flame on the pilot at all times that then grows and extends to the burner when the oven is turned on. The lack of a pilot flame indicates the oven thermostat is malfunctioning or there is a problem with the gas hose. Check the pilot itself to see if it is clogged with debris or grease that could be preventing the flame from staying lit.
   
3. Determine if the pilot flame will grow if it is lit by turning on the thermostat. If the pilot flame doesn't extend, the thermostat itself likely needs replacement. If the flame is extending but the gas valve is not opening, the safety valve could be dirty or defective. The flame should be blue in color. A yellow flame indicates the pilot is dirty and is not burning hot enough to get the main burner to ignite.
   
4. Light the burner on the top of the oven with a match if the igniter doesn't appear to be effective. If it lights manually but will not light automatically, the igniter is likely faulty. Do not do this if there is a heavy smell of gas in the kitchen, since there could be a risk of a fire. In that circumstance, turn the oven off, ventilate the room and call a technician.
   
5. Listen for any sounds of gas hissing or a clicking sound indicating the oven is trying to turn on. If there is no response from the oven at all, the gas may not be functioning properly and will need to be examined by a technician for safety purposes
   

I'm not sure about your question, if it is an ordinary ELECTRIC microwave oven you are not suppose to smell GAS although you could smell ION gas if the high voltage is leaking trough the insulator this means STOP USING IT and have it checked by a professional it could burst into flames... or it could be food leftover burning inside the chamber...

all ovens, when they reach temperature they go off and on to kip the temperature, but if you smell gas the oven ignitor needs replacing, the ignitor gets red hot to ignite the burner ,but when ignitor does not get hot enough, it will have a delayed, that's the reason you smell gas.

In some stoves this is normal as long as it is a slight smell and it goes away when the stove or oven ignites.
You know gas really has no smell, but this smell is added for our safety!!
What is the Make,year ,and Model number of your range?

The gas must start somewhere until the flame ignites it.
So we smell a slight smell of gas until it burns.

yea sounds like you have a stive set for natural gas hooked up to propane gasm you need to convert that thing instructions are simple to follow in installation manual, or if you paid someone for installation id get them back
