UN -PLUG IT,,,,, THAT "FUNNY SMELL" SOUNDS LIKE IT IS SHORTING OUT
PERHAPS THE MEGATRON HAS GONE BAD, THE MEGATRON IS THE
HEART OF ANY MICROWAVE
AS A EX- FIREMAN, I KNOW FROM FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE THAT
"A FUNNY SMELL " OR " UN-USUALL SMELL COMING FROM AN ELECTRICAL
ITEM IS A SIGN OF DANGER
Sounds like you burned out the magnetron, if so you should discontinue use immediately. This is the bit that emits the microwaves and they will fail with a burnt faintly oily smell to an acrid chemical smell. Magneton replacement should not be attempted by the amateur fix-it man, Find a reputable appliance repair shop or chuck it in!
That's usually the sign of a bad magnetron tube, the microwave source. The tube can be replaced, but it's an expensive part. With repair labor, it may be not cost much more to replace the oven. Microwave repair is best left to professionals because of lethal voltages under the cover and the chance of microwave leakage if repairs aren't done properly. Take this to a shop for an estimate, then decide whether to fix or replace.
The first thing I would do is thoroughly clean the inside. Take particular care when cleaning around the upper left side. Sometimes a buildup of food steam or spray can cause the problem you are having. Never spray anything into the microwave, in an attempt to clean it.
Hope this helps.
there is a component called a spatter gard inside the oven at the point where the microwaves enter......if food or other foreign substance gets stuck there, then it will start to burn ...the smell and popping noise is coming from the spatter gard.....to fix it you must remove the spatter gard..replace it if it's burnt and /or sand paper the spot clean and then paint the area with a high temperature paint called mr. touch up......to protect the bare metal from the microwaves.....hope that helps
Hi,It is most likely the magnetron and diode that has to be replaced. This job should be done by a tech, High voltage. Magnetron'snormally have a five year warranty, check your owners manual.
