Hi, I have a problem with my laptop(2 yrs old). When I turn it on, it shows the microsoft loading screen with the logo and all, but after that the computer screen turns black-- not completely black, but a black background with the cursor, which usually happens before the user accounts come up in a blue/green screen if the computer is running properly. So the computer stops working and the screen remains a black background, then the cursor is gone. I pressed the power button to shut it down but nothing happens, the computer isn"t even working, CAPS lock won't work either. The day before that I brought the laptop to school (crushed by all the textbooks?)Any idea what's going on or how to fix it? thanks tonnes

Sounds like a software error. When the screen has been blaxk for a minute or two try hitting control+alt+del and use the task manager to start the process explorer.exe if so then there is a registry or windows error and needs to be repaired.

My Acer Aspire V5-571 does not load up it shows acer screen when turning on the laptop then loading floating ball comes on screen for a few seconds then black screen ? can any one please help ?

Hi Jim,

this seems like a no boot / no video kind off issue and mostly is coz of corruptions in softwares or drivers, try booting the computer in safe mode. if it does, then take a data backup. i would not recommend experimenting in this issue as it can crash the computer.
hence call 1-877-805-1027 for expert help.

Have a Dell Studio. When I power up the Dell Logo appears with loading bar below that. The bar stops about 2/3 of the way, it freezes up and starts beeping. Nothing I've tried works.

this is often related to a possible motherboard problem. Try these steps: turn it off, remove the battery, and AC adapter, then press and hold the power button for about 5 to 10 seconds. Once done, reconnect at least the adapter , turn on the laptop and as soon as the Dell logo shows up, tap F2 a few times to enter System Setup (BIOS screen). From there, go to the Maintenance category, and select Load Defaults, press Enter. Press ESC, then select Save/Exit, restart the computer and see how it goes.

Starting problem

Immediately after seeing the Dell logo, keep tapping the 'F8' key,
until you see a "menu" (white text over a black background)
giving "startup" options for Windows XP.

Select "Safe Mode" and see if you can start in that mode.
Then, use "System Restore" to go "back" in time, to the most-recent checkpoint (date/time) where your computer _DID_ work.

Restore to that point, and restart.

Acer Aspire 5610. LCD very dim all of a sudden.

That sounds just like an inverter problems. There is a slim chance the bulb could be a problem, but I would replace the inverter. It is not too hard to do, no soldering involved.

You have to remove the screw covers on the frame of the LCD frame, and then carefully pop off the frame. The inverter should be on the bottom center of the screen.

Be careful, there is a high voltage in that little baby. Just get the full numbers, and do a search on the internet and buy yourself a new inverter to replace the old one.
