There is usually a lock on the inside of the door. Sometimes you can move that while the door is open, else play with the release switch. Once you get it in the open position it should close

My Sony-cyber-shot DSC-P93A won't turn on when I turn the dial to camera just has a red light on the side

have you replaced the batteries,or the power pack (some models) disconnect the power for a few minutes, check that the lens is in its closed position. flush with the casing. install batteries etc, also you can try the power adapter to see if it will work on this, this is an extra in some models and may not be with the box.

Hello,

Bummer huh? I dropped mine a while back and damaged my battery cover!

I would try...taking out the batteries and reinstalling them! This may reset your camera?

Otherwise, I would do a web search and type in:

Hope this helps you get your camera working again!

Kind Regards!

I dropped my Sony DSC-W1/W12 camera. The battery door broke and will no longer close. The camera works fine with a little duct tape. Do they make a new battery cover to replace? Thank you all Marcia

Yes, you can get new battery holder that comes with cover, part number is as follows:
175648311.... HOLDER, BATTERY (WITH TERMINAL Silver)
DSC-W1 Camera will take apart to replace battery compartment.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

The door is stuck open, how do I close it

the two little clips that hold it closed are more than likely broken off or damaged. you need to replace the battery door.

The Battery Door on my Sony Cybershot DSC-S40 won't open.

No easy solution except:
1. Remove all 3 screws from body.
2. Carefully wedge off the back half of body.
3. The back half is connected to the front half by a small cable. Don't break this!
4. The door has a hinge pin. Wedge up and remove this pin.
5. With small screwdriver, wedge off the door from top. Should pop out.
6. Apply small amount of oil on sliding areas.
7. Reinsert door. If still stuck, see step 5.
8. Reassemble camera back and screw down.
9. The reason for sticking is unknown, but door can still be removed by popping off as in step 5.

Lens stuck halfway open

Fully charge the battery or connect the camera to the power supply (if you have an ac adaptor).
If it still does not work, it means that the lens is broken.
Reason can be that the camera was in your pocket pr carrying bag and the camera inadvertantly open and the lens mechanism was damaged. In this case, it needs repair.

Sony Cyber-Shot Battery Compartment Door Broken

I'm having the same problem with my DSC-W1 camera. I dropped my camera and the battery door latches broke.
I found a replacement door on Ebay for $9.95
I followed the instructions in the description and easily removed the broken door from my camera. Now i'm just waiting on the new door to arrive so I could slide the new door in.
I hope this was helpful.

Here's the seller I bought the door from. Hopefully the seller has more doors. =) :

Sony DSC-S500

you are right it has defective mechanism,  a stucked mechanism is present. camcorder are smart it can detects error and shuts down itself for safety. earlier models dominoes the defect if the user is not quick enough to react when something goes wrong with the camera. You need professional service to fix it.
