Issue
When
the all-in-one product is sharing a phone line with voice calls, some
calls are interrupted by fax tones. Follow the steps below to solve the
problem.Step one: Check the Rings to Answer setting
If
Auto Answer is enabled, the HP fax product will answer the phone line
when the number of rings reaches the number of rings specified in the
Rings-to-Answer setting. When voice calls will be received on the same
phone line as faxes, set to rings-to-answer to 6.
If
you do not want the fax to answer automatically, either turn off Auto
Answer from the front panel and receive faxes manually (this may result
in lost faxes) or subscribe to a distinctive ring service from the phone
company (if available).
Refer to the Answering faxes manually
section below to learn how to answer faxes manually or refer to the Using distinctive ringing
section below for more information about using distinctive ringing.
The Rings-to-answer setting for the HP
Officejet 500 and 600 series products can only be checked or set using
the all-in-one software on the computer.
The

Press the right arrow button repeatedly until Rings to Answer
is displayed, and then press Enter
.
The number of rings before the HP fax product answers will be displayed.
The setting is correct if it is 6. Press Cancel
or Stop (Stop Fax)
to exit the menu.
If the number is not 6, press the right arrow button until 6
appears in the display and then press Enter
(or Start
or OK
).
Feature * 6 is for the ring tone of the set, it doesn't change the cadence (ring tone) on a line...
The only way to change the ring tone on a line... it would require everyone that has that number to change.
You need to go into the programming
-> look for LINE and enter
-> put in 003 for line 3 and enter
-> under TRUNK/LINE DATA find DISTINCT RING and change
-> REL to end programming...
Now that line 3 will ring differently. But it will ring differently on everyone's sets that has line 3 on their phone
The fax is on what you call a Distinctive Ring tone. You need to go in to the settings on the fax machine, and look for Ring type, or Distinctive Ring, And set it to 2 or 3, Dependent on how the phone rings on the fax number.
You have to have either a dedicated phone line just for the fax --or-- pay your phone company approximately $2 a month for a service called Distinctive Ringtone. This service will ring a certain way when you have an incoming fax. You will then configure your fax machine to pick up when this distinctive rington is heard. The ringtone is usually two or three quick rings. Your fax machine's settings will have this setting.
Unfortunately, you can't just plug your fax machine into your phone line and start sending/receiving faxes. Look through your fax machine's manual regarding the distinctive ring service. Good luck!!
I'm not sure what you mean entirely but this could help.
Usually sending faxes are only a problem if:
You have the printer set up correctly. (Phone line must be in line 1) or your phone line digital, which the product does not support unless you have a filter.
Also, if by different dial tone you mean "distinctive ring," that also is not supported by the product.
