This is the reset procedure, let me know how it works for you

1. Unplug the unit for 5 seconds 2. Hold the power button in until the unit beeps
3. Pull the plug and reconnect a second time.

If that doesn't work 1. Pull the power cord. 2. Hold the MODE button while plugging the unit back in, but do not let go of MODE 3. The unit will beep and start to operate 4. Let go of MODE and depress the Power button to turn it off 5. Press power to turn back on
And one more way

1. Pull the power 2. Hold the power button in for the next bunch of steps - don't let go! 3. Plug the unit back in, it will start, stop, and beep 4. Pull the plug out, don't let go of power 5. Plug the unit back in, it will start, stop and beep 6. Pull the plug out. Let go of power button. 7. Plug the unit back in and power it up. Set controls to your liking.

The reason for the reset, is that it is needed after 720 hours of use and this is the time to clean it also especially the filter but make sure you clean all of the dust out, if none of the reset options work, then let me know

The manual says to clean filter and unplug unit, plug unit back in and code will be reset.

  • Ekse Jun 06, 2008

sorry that information was out of date, try this

Unplug unit, clean filter, HOLD DOWN power button and CONTINUE HOLDING while plugging unit back in. Unit will beep. Unplug again, plug back in and resume normal operation

How much Sharp AF-S120FX Air Conditioner?

The model number you listed has been discontinued by Sharp. So, getting an accurate retail price is difficult. I did see one online marked Clearance for $269.00. But be careful buying discontinued models, as the warranty may only for a short period of time. Also, customer ratings/opinions on this model, dating back to 2005, were not good.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Ac shuts off E1 error message

E1 Error Code -->> Clean Filter

Owners of Sharp air conditioner models AF-S60FX, AF-S80FX, AF-S85FX, and AF-R80FX may experience the following (highly annoying) issue. After 720 hours of fan operation, the error code E1 will appear on the seven segment LED temperature display. This error code is intended as a reminder for the user to clean the air filter. However, because the procedure outlined in the user manual does not clear this error code as indicated, and the appliance has a nonvolatile memory that cannot be reset by simply unplugging it, the user of the appliance will become mightily frustrated, standing in potentially sweltering heat watching the appliance repeatedly shut down in the midst of operation with the "E1" display flashing.

Believe it or not, that is what it does: if you unplug it to remove the "E1" code from the display, and plug it back in and re-start it, it will simply run for anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, and then merrily shut down again with the same flashing "E1" code.

Many people at this point, having put the manual under the canary or some such, will simply return the unit and never buy another Sharp air conditioner. But for the tech-savvy and search-adept, I offer the following procedure to clear the nefarious E1 indication, and obtain another 720 hours of cooling bliss:
1. Power down the air conditioner using the "power" button on the front panel.
2. Unplug the air conditioner from the wall socket.
3. Hold the front panel "power" button down and plug the air conditioner in. Continue to hold the power button down as the machine goes through a brief test sequence (fan & compressor each come on briefly, etc). There is a "beep" sound at the end of the test sequence, and the machine will be off. At this point, you can release the power button.
4. Unplug the air conditioner.
5. Plug the air conditioner back in.
6. Congratulations! You should now be able to operate the air conditioner normally for another 720 hours, but only if you followed the instructions above exactly.

If you doubt the veracity of this information, or it does not work as expected, you can get it directly from the source at: 1-800-237-4277 (Sharp customer service line). You'll need to call between 7 AM and 7 PM US Central time, and have your model number and serial number ready.

My AF-S120FX sharp air conditioner will work for about 15 minutes and then stop and the error/problem code E1 shows up. Do you know what this code means and/or how to correct the problem?

Check the outside fan and condenser . condenser must be really clean and fan must operate. Make sure the fan on the evaporator in the house is working as well. Pressures exceed rated running values if not.

My Sharp Room Air conditioner (Mod.AF-S120FX-A) when it's starts

Most likely the terrible noise you hear is the compressor starting... Sometimes it is louder than when its runs continuous. Just make sure if the unit is shut off allow a few minutes for the freon to equalize before restarting the unit. Its possible that the Compressor is going out, But as long as it cools and the noise goes away after a minute or so, i wouldn't worry about it to much.

Shutting off

I would try the same solution as the E1 error code, Not sure if it will work, but it seems to be the same issue

1. Power down the air conditioner using the "power" button on the front
panel.
2. Unplug the air conditioner from the wall socket.
3. Hold the front panel "power" button down and plug the air
conditioner in. Continue to hold the power button down as the machine
goes through a brief test sequence (fan & compressor each come on
briefly, etc). There is a "beep" sound at the end of the test sequence,
and the machine will be off. At this point, you can release the power
button.
4. Unplug the air conditioner.
5. Plug the air conditioner back in.
6. Congratulations! You should now be able to operate the air
conditioner normally for another 720 hours, but only if you followed
the instructions above EXACTLY.

Air condition problem

An E1 error is automatically generated after the AC runs for so many hours to remind you to clean the filter. The manual says to clean filter and unplug unit, then plug unit back in and code will be reset.
