very carefully. use a block of wood between the jack & the oil pan & jack it up slowly until you have just enough room to get it out.

Secure replacement part first. Put a jack under the oil pan with some protection for the pan. Raise the engine none, but have its weight on the jack. Remove the old mount and replace it with the new one. Let the new mount accept the weight and check to see there isn't any excessive movement after installation. Have fun w/that!

You will have a selection of how to support the engine (and replacement of motor mount) you tube videos to watch. Or go to the library and take out a Chilton or Haynes repair manual so you have it close at hand.

You have more than one engine and transmision mounts on your vehicle
upper mounts easy to install but bottom two is little hard because hard access to bolts good idea to work with lift and make sure your engine secured on level before losen any bolt from mounts !!! If you dont have proper tools good idea to let some one do it for you be safe!

The 1985 Impala came standard with the Chevrolet 305 V8. All Chevrolet small block V8's from 265 cubic inches to 400 cubic inches from 1957 to about 1989 used the same block with almost no difference in the castings, so the motor mounts should fit from one block to the next. If you are trying to swap in a 350 newer than 1989, then the motor mounts are different, and you will have to have them fabricated by a local welder, machine shop, or perhaps the best, a local short-track race car driver/builder. Those guys can build anything.

It sounds like you might need to replace your motor mounts, or get a tier allignement done. The allignment you cannot do yourself but the motor mounts you can this requires you to place a jack under you engine and undoing the motor mounts then replace them and take away jack.

If you have 2 motor mounts on the front of the engine attaching it to the front of the car remove the mount bolt tie something a come along to the motor it will roll over toward the front of the car making it easy to work on the back of the motor
