Had similar issues on MFC-8860. Got a drum end of life msg, followed procedure to reset drum counter. (Opened door, removed and replaced drum assembly, left door open, pressed clear/back button till msg 'replace drum' came up. Answered yes and drum counter reset, but toner end of life msg came up. I powered MFC-8860DN down, held clear/back button down and powered back up. Light turned green and msg went away.

I just solved my own problem. Try it for yours. I had been using several compatible toners for the MFC-8460N with no problems until today, as I posted earlier. On a hunch, I went to the local office supply store and purchased one original Brothers TN550 toner and put it into the printer and closed the cover. Everything clicked. Toner End Life message gone. I then took that Brother toner out and put the compatible one back in and still everything was fine. Am keeping the original Brother toner as a "kickstarter" if it happens again.

Hi
Just cover the eyes (on both sides) that you can see in the bottom of the machine after removing the imaging cartrige with a small piece of electrical tape.
With printer switched on push the switch which is located inside the upper left side of printer (it is a small white switch) and then release it.
Also try resetting the gear, take the cartridge out. On the gear side take off 2 screws, the black gear on top right side, with a small spring underneath. Just take it off and reset it (rotate clockwise) so it is not at the stopping point.
Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.
Thanks

You could try resetting the toner cartridge settings. OPen the machines front door where you would replace the cartridges. On the top panel you will see a "clear/back" button. Press it and on the display you will see a reset menu come up. Arrow to each one and hit the OK button. Press "1" to reset. Once you have gone through all close the front door of the machine and press stop to bring the display back to normal.
Hope this helps.
