Convergence problem... the colors will move, just not far enough right. Does this mean the stk's need replaced or is there a manual adjustment for the bulbs and then the amount the remote will move them will be enough?

Check the STK regulator, but more likely the convergence IC and surrounding resistors...especially if it has Magic Focus mode.

The picture on my tv seems to look like what my kids say 3D what could be the problem?

The problem of your tv is the convergence. Use the original remote then go to setting menu then you will see the convergence section. Try to adjust the color, you should move them left, right and up,down. If this color does't move far enough the convergence chip is defective and must be replace. This convergence chip is located inside the tv t has a large aluminum plate cold the hit sink and the chip has a marking of STK---followed by numbers if you are handy in electronic trouble shooting I can guide you but be sure to unplug the unit first or you can contact a technician to do it for and save you from stress. Good day and best regards.

Convergence Failure Test

CONVERGENCE PROBLEMS

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these sets and a fairly simple DIY fix.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.

This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from TvRepairKits.com

Their kits include a step by step instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

I have a KDP51ws550 tv that has convergence problems. Flash focus would not work and neither would manual convergence. I replaced the both convergence ICs and checked the pico fuses, turned the unit back...

Check your soldering. Check the vertical power board on the far left when looking from the back. It has fuses on it as well.

Depending on quality of STK chips, they could have been bad or failed right away. Best things is to look at the schematic, verify what colors you can move and see which STK chip is not functioning.

If both chips are not function after replacement, likely a fuse. Be sure to verify the resistors next to the STK chips.

Manual converge, multipoint red, when i try to adjust it doesn't move

Hi;
This is because one of the convergence Ic's has failed. It is common pratice to replace both IC's because if one has failed the other is not far behind The part number you want to get is STK-392-110, but you may want to use higher rated oneslike STK-392-120 instead. You can find the convergence IC's on the main power supply they are mounted on a large metal heat sink. They are black in color and are the largest IC's in the unit.

The images on my TW40X81 have a RED halo on their left side (viewers right side) I have done the electronic convergence but the red will not adjust left, to the "Merge" cross hairs. it will move right,up...

If Red will not move far enough you have one of three things wrong----if the two convergence chips have never been replaced--they are Q751 & Q752 and are black in color---

About 2 1/2 inches wide X 1 1/2 inches tall and mounted side (ON LARGE METAL HEAT SINKS WITH FINS) and they will have the STK-392-110 PRINTED ON THEM IN WHITE.

Either one of them is bad, or one of the 1.8 ohm resistors around them is damaged and off value OR you have a problem in the digital convergence unit--it stores and controls all the convergence adjustments.

I suspect based on your description one of the two chips damaged one of the protect resistors---

You can if you are able to do the repair yourself buy a pair of the chips on Ebay for about 12 dollars plus shipping--I do this for a living and have repaired hundreds of sets with convergence problems.

Color blue will not adjust on crt color conergence adjustment , picture on tv is double with blue on right side, auto/manual mode , the color blue will not adjust on right or middle side from side to side,...

This is a convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$300

50H82 red wavy convergence (stks didn't fix)

If the tin can module you are referring to is the hyper module, it is common to replace all 11 caps because the factory caps ****. Check for bridged solder connections at STK's search the forum at electromaniacs for 50h81 :)

Convergance does't converge enough/

You need to replace the two STK-392-110 convergence chips; they are side by side on large metal heat sinks---and check all the protect resistors around them with a meter(like checking a fuse)

If any color will not move in some direction you have a bad IC. The white heat transfer grease on the back of these dries out and one or both get taken out by lack of transfer of heat to the metal.

Looks 3d

Do not open anything until you. Go to menu on your remote find convergence and press the volume button to the right go to manual and press right again. you should see a bunch of rectangles, now you should also see a set of red cross heirs press the #2 to move cross heirs up and eight to move down numbers 4 and 6 will move left and right and 5 will place the cross heirs back to the center once you have chosen the selected section to adjust line up the magenta with the other colors using the channel and volume buttons these move the lines up down left to right adjust all lines until they are white. i do not know how to switch from magenta to green or blue but this should get you started on the right track with out having to replace anything. good luck! if you figure out how to switch from maqgent to green or blue please post it so that I may adjust mine as well tahnks
