Is it the external or intenal drive. What type of OS?. What are you trying to do (install OS over it?) Is this the only drive in the system? What is the manufacturer of the hd and its type number serial number etc?

you can replace it with any IDE drive.
if you have a SATA port on your motherboard you can use any SATA hard drive which is faster than IDE.

did you put cable on o sata or sata 1 on board needs to be on o sata to start right. look on drive to make sure that it is at factory settings. then plug in power cable and board cable on drive jim

Any IDE or ATA (but SATA) hard drive is compatible with that model, and new ones with wattanty are sursrisingly inexpensive. I go to ebay for those:

Hi this hard drive will work with your laptop all it needs to be is to have a SATA connection cable

2.5 inch = laptop
3.5 inch = Computer

The best way is to use a desktop system. Leave one hard drive plugged into the primary IDE connector and unplug the CD-rom from the secondary connector and plug the other hard drive into that cable. Reboot your computer and they will show as a C and D drive.

Try reseating the power connector for the drive. You can try another unused connector if it will reach. Do the same for the data cable. Reseat both ends of the cable a couple of times to shine up the contacts. If none of this works, then a data recovery service will be needed.

take it apart and get a bridge cable called IDE to USB or ATA to USB.

Connect the cable to your PC and take out the files.
