Try connecting this to an external monitor, see if it gives an image,if it does, you will need to check the inverter and back light of the laptop screen. if it is the backlight at fault, you should see a faint image on the screen in a darkened room If it is the inverter, the screen will remain black with no image.
Top replace the backlight, the screen itself must be replaced ( approx. cost £60.00 used) Replacing the inverter approx cost £10.00.
neither are difficult jobs, but the cost may outweigh the value of the laptop if it is the backlight.
Knowing Hi-Grades though, the above points are academic. I'd be 90% certain that the graphics chip has failed ( no picture seen on external monitor). this is very common with hi-grade laptops, as the cooling to the graphics chip is very poor. Sadly in this case, you will need to replace the motherboard, the cost of which will certainly not be worth it
You should be able to get a free detailed advice from a near hardware shop, but in general laptops are seldom and hard vga upgradeable and it is not very cost effective.
While you likely can use the RAM, be careful. Some printers use proprietary memory with designs which could mess up your notebook. Contact the printer manufacturer and ask if their memory is standard or proprietary. The cost of RAM today doesn't merit you risking the entire notebook for memory that can mess the computer badly.
you can only upgrade cpu with the socket you have, which is 478/479, the best you can do the Intel 1.6Mhz M processor 725
if you want a faster CPU, you need to get a new motherboard.
Honestly speaking, I recommend you to go for a New Notebook rather than changing the Motherboard since it is not possible to purchase another Motherboard for this Notebook with a better graphic card.
The actul Motherboard of your Notebook will cost you pretty more and I personally recommend you to go for a New Notebook with which you can get latest Graphic Card and hardware components.
You can find the list of parts available for this Notebook from HP Part Store from the link below :
and then it has to fit your laptop. No this is very hard, id recommend a new laptop, you can transfer your files and everything from the old pc to the new laptop.
and then you can go ahead and sell the old laptop.
for a normal upgrade just follow your manual of your mother board or just go to coomputer hardware shop and ask for the latest processor they could give for a motherboard which you have (give them the model number)
