Hi, The DVMRe manual states if connecting via ethernet port to use a Cat5 crossover connection. I have a 50' Cat6 ethernet crossover cable and a D-Link USB 2.0 ethernet Adapter. I connected both the DVMRe and my PC together with the ehternet adapter and crossover cable. I changed the ethernet settings in the DVMRe to talk with the USB ethernet adapter and still no network connectivity. I'm over my head, help.

You need to have a wired connection. Plug one end of a ethernet (cat5/cat6) into one of your router's ports. Plug the other into the back of the PS2. You will have to sign up for a free Playstation Network account.
If I understood you right, you have a wireless router that connects to you're PC and game console wirelessly, now you brought a 5 port switch to use with non-wireless enabled devices. please correct me if I'm wrong.
However, you will not get any extra speed from a 5X port switch, its either 10 Mbps for ethernet, 100 Mbps for fast-ethernet, and its automatically negotiated between the device and the switch therefore you see the "10/100" in every switch/network card specifications, it means it supports auto-negotiation. same goes for 10/100/1000
As per the network cable categories, there's no big difference really between CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6 because they all support the fastethernet (100 Mbps speed), the maximum length should not exceed 100 meters (theoretically), I'd say don't exceed 80 meters from my personal experience. The noticeable difference between the 3 categories (CAT5/5e/6) is the cable thickness, hence, quality.

I assume you have a broadband connection which you are directly to your computer.
In that case please connect the broadband ethernet cable to one of your switch port. Get a new CAT5 or CAT6 ethernet straight cable and connect one end to any free port of the DES-1008D 8-Port Ethernet Switch and other end to your Computer.

Hi, 1.Connect a Cat5 cable into the Ethernet port on the back of your cable or DSL modem. Plug the other end of the cable into the "Connect to Modem Internet/WAN" port on the back of the Belkin Router. 2.Connect a Cat5 cable into the "Ethernet" port on the back of any desktop or stationary computers and then plug the other end of the cable into one of the LAN ports on the back of the Belkin Router. Start with port one and work your way up with subsequent computer connections. 3.Turn the Belkin Router on by plugging the router into a power outlet. Allow 30 seconds for the router to fully boot up. All computers tethered to the modem via a Cat5 cable have access to the Internet. 4.Open the Wi-Fi Wizard on your laptop and turn on the Wi-Fi antenna. Once turned on, the Wizard finds all network connections in your area. Connect to your network to establish an Internet connection. Complete this step for each computer not tethered to the Belkin Router with a Cat5 cable.
Here is a general guide I wrote. For Vista, however, I think you will have to go to the sharing tab instead of the advanced tab when you are browsing the properties of a connection...
1. Get a CAT5 or CAT6 crossover cable. The cable that came with the PS3 is a normal Ethernet cable, therefore it cannot be used for this operation.
2. Make sure you have two sources for network communication. For example, you can have 2 ethernet ports on your computer, or you can have a wireless card and a Ethernet port etc. It helps to draw out a connection blueprint such as this:
DSL Modem > CAT5 cable > Network Card 1 > Computer > Network Card 2 > CAT5 Crossover cable > PS3
3. Connect your computer to the modem and verify that you have an Internet connection. Then, click on Start, go to settings, control panel. Double click on Network Connections, and identify the connection to your modem (Network card 1).
4. Right click on the modem connection, and choose properties. Next, click on the advanced tab (Sharing tab for Vista users), and check the “allow other users to connect…” checkbox. After the checkbox is checked, click on the “Home networking connection” drop down box and select the name of the second network connection. Click OK and exit the properties window.
5. Finally, connect the CAT5 crossover cable from the second network adapter of the computer to the PS3, and voila, your Internet connection is now routed to your PS3. Please be aware that your computer must be on in order for your PS3 to stay online. In the long run, a router may be a much better device to use than your computer, since it consumes only a fraction of the electricity than your computer does.
Well see Cat5 & Cat6 are different spec's and are wired differently...They have different wires inside the cable. You would be able to use the actual Wires, BUT they will have to be wired to the "Other" standard in the Outlet Jacks. Either that or get one that works on Cat6.

I guess you have a single incoming internet connection and wish it to be shared.
You only require one DSL / Cable router. To share this connectivity you will need Ethernet / Cat5 or wireless.
An ethernet switch or hub will enable you to extend connectivity.
All cable should be CAT5e or CAT6.
Suggest you consider the slightly more expensive switches that have auto-uplink. The negates the need of crossover cables.
Everything sounds ok. Try to add more port in your port forwarding. Actually, even if you don't forward port 80, by default its already open because that is for internet access. Research more port that your dvmre is using. You may want to isolate the problem by connecting your dvmre directly to the modem and check if it works there. If not, maybe your ISP is blocking some port the your dvmre is using.
I have done what you are talking about with making the one router act as a network bridge. It is a pain in the **** to do but with enough time it can be done. The main things you need to do are:
Configure the 2nd router as a bridge/access point.
Disable DHCP on that router and give it a static IP address on the same subnet as your main router.
Use the same exact wireless encryption for both routers. I believe I used WPA2 and set the passwords for both to be the same key.

LOL. It is a pretty involved project and took me a little bit. The only reason I did this in the first place was I promised my gf that I wouldn't spend 100$ to get my XBOX360 online and since I had a spare wireless laying around I decided to see if it could be done.
