Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer

Open Question

On whirlpool duet GHW9150PW2, it is throwing a F6 code, but I think it is because the belt seems like something is holding it back, and the motor is showing either bearing or bushing problems in that the metal is chewed up. Any ideas ? Is it worth replacing the motor in this unit. Bought in 2006

SOURCE: How do I replace the bearing on the rear drum

You replace the entire drum assembly with the bearing already installed from the factory.

SOURCE: F6 & Won't Spin

The error is an indication a motor speed problem. You will need to check the following:

- Check the wiring harness. Verify all connections between the Drive Motor, Motor Control Unit (MCU), and Central Control Unit (CCU).

NOTE: The MCU is a circuit board located in the vicinity of the Drive Motor on the bottom rear of the washer. To access the MCU, you will need to remove the back panel of the washer.

NOTE: The CCU is the main computer for the washer and is located behind the wash tub. You will need to remove the top panel to access the CCU. This is accomplished by removing the three screws in the back of the washer that hold the top in place. Once the screws are removed, the top panel will slide back, then lift off.

- Check the Drive Motor. Perform a continuity check of the Drive Motor windings. Remove the connector plug and check across pins 1 to 2, 2 to 3, and 1 to 3. All readings should be approximately 6 ohms. HINT: You can also take this reading by removing connector 2 from the MCU and measuring across pins 1, 2 and 3. If the readings are good, this will also prove the wiring and connector good.

- Check the MCU. The connectors are numbered 1 to 3 (L to R). That is, with the MCU installed, connector 1 is on the bottom, followed by 2 in the middle, and 3 on top.

Connector 1 - is the serial communications link between the MCU and CCU and has three wires. At the opposite end, this will be the 2nd connector from the rear on the left-hand side of the CCU.
Connector 2 - is the link between the MCU and the Drive Motor. Pins 1, 2, and 3 on this connector are the Drive Motor windings. Pins 4 and 5 are for the tachometer.
Connector 3 – is the primary power connector. Pins 1 to 2 should read 120VAC with the door in the locked position. Pin 3 is ground. At the opposite end, this is the 4th connector from the right on the front of the CCU.

NOTE: All the connector pins are numbered R to L.

If your continuity readings are normal for the Drive Motor and you have verified all connectors, replace the MCU.

If any of the Drive Motor windings indicate readings higher that 6 ohms, replace the Drive Motor.

Ghw9150pw2 My 2006 Whirlpool Duet washer is showing an F11 code. It will run a small amount of water initially, but then stop and throw the code. It was ran a few loads successfully one night, and the next...

The F11 code indicates that there is a communication error between the motor or MCU and the CCU (central control unit or clock). To reset the washer and try again, press Pause/Cancel twice. Then press Drain/Spin. Then try setting up to run a load.

If the error recurs, you need to check the wiring harnesses and connectors between multiple components, check for wear at the motor bearings and other drive components. Then next components to check are the MCU (motor control unit) and the CCU. This may be a good time to get a technician to check out the unit.

I hope this helps.

What does F6 code mean?

F6 code means the control board can not detect the speed of the motor. The failure could be the motor or the MCU does not work.

Have A GHW9150PW2 with error code of F/07. How do you diagnose it completely

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

My Whirlpool list does not have your specific model's fault codes (Whirlpool does not give info out readily!) but in general 'F07' states 'Triac short circuit detection (motor control module)'
Sorry but it looks like a service visit is required ;-0(

If this has assisted and/or clarified the situation for you please consider a 4 thumbs up on our rating.
Thanks and good luck!

I have a F6 code problem with my Whirlpool Duet FL Washer, any ideas?

F6 is an issue with the motor drive tachometer. Most often this is caused by poor connections at the machine control or motor controller. Locate the main machine control by removing the top panel and the motor control by removing the rear panel. Remove each connector, ONE AT A TIME, and reinstall. If this does not work, you likely have a faulty control.

What is an F6 on my duet washer? I already

three things.... could be the motor, could also be the MCU (  motor control unit ), could be the wiring harness .  check the wiring harness between the speed sensor at the motor and the MCU.  i have run into all of those being bad on different machines.

How to replace the belt on a whirlpool duet washer

To replace the drive belt on a Whirlpool Duet washer, follow these steps:

1. Unplug the washer and remove the rear panel.

2. Place the drive belt on the drive motor pulley with the ribbed side on the drive motor pulley. Leave a one-groove gap between the belt and the end of the pulley.

3. Take both hands and pull straight up on the belt and place on the drum pulley beginning on the left hand side.

4. Hold the belt firmly in place and slowly turn the pulley to the right while holding the belt in place. The belt will eventually align and hold in place on the drum pulley.

NOTE: This may require some effort to get the belt in place.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Whirlpool duet front load

The "F06" error is a Motor Speed problem. You may have a problem with either your drive motor, motor control unit or main computer board (known as a CCU). The following link explains how to check and determine what may be causing your problem:

If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps.

PS Check for the obvious first. Make sure the drive belt is still attached and not broken before getting too deep into troubleshooting everything else. NOTE: More commonly, this is an indication of a motor control unit failure.
