The blue ethernet cable from the modem to the internet port on the router. The other ethernet cable goes from one of the other ports on the router, to the ethernet input on your desktop tower. That should do it.
Since your D-Link 2640 is a modem + router it may not work the way you intend.
You need just a wireless router without modem.
Run a small Ethernet patch cable from your Paradyne modem into the WAN port on your router, you can plug your existing Ethernet cable into one of the other LAN ports on the router, then access the router setup using the computer connected to the Ethernet cable using a browser and putting the router's IP address into the address line of your browser. It will most likely be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.
Once you have configured the Wi-Fi router you will have your wireless network. Full instructions should come with the router.
Routers are available for as little as $29.95 but expect to pay closer to $79.95 for satisfactory speed and capability.
Your cable modem has a ip address of 192.168.1.1 and your router probably has the same ip address. Hook your computer up to the router and change the ip address to 192.168.9.1. On your router change the router mode to static ip address mode. Then you will need to know your username and password from you cable company, and the Domain Number. Then connect the cable back to the wan port from the modem and the other end to the wan port of the router. Connect the computer to the first lan port on the router and type 192.168.9.1 go to the status page and tell it to connect.
Your cable company is giving you one ip addres and have to pay for another for more than one computer. What are you doing is using the router to receive the first ip address and distrubting out to the other computers.
Are you trying to set up the router ?
First make sure that your computer is online when connected directly to the mdoem. ISP is DSL.
If not online through the modem then you should have user name and password for the ISP.
try to reconfigure the router. Click Here for more info about router set up.
Hey, connect a network (straight through cable) from the blue socket on the modem to the WAN socket on your router (This socket will be split away from the other 4 on the router), then turn on your router 1st then modem.
The single slot is where you connect your cable modem by use of ethernet (cat-5/6 cable). the other 4 act like a switch (basically plug your computer into those IF the router isn't a wireless router. IF it is, only use the single and only for the line coming from your cable modem.
you can put your ps3 in a dmz zone. if still does not work its not your router. u can keep your ps3 in dmz and get your router to open ports. u can call your router company. If still does not work its not your router more than likely. It might be your modem. i have at&t and that was my issue. i went to dmz on modem and allowed it to pass through dmz zone and ip addresses to pass through. but make sure on your comp u have spyware or something. Your ps3 can not get virus.
