Do I need a dtv digital converter box for my Symphonic SC313D 13 inch tv?

I own a Symphonic SC313D 13 inch tv/vcr comb tv set. I have received information that some tv sets will need a digital converter box to keep it working after Feb. 17, 2009. I use the rod antenna that came with my tv and is part of my tv set to receive free broadcast tv. I do not have cable tv nor any other pay for it tv service. Do I need a dtv digital converter box for my Symphonic SC313D 13 inch tv/vcr comb tv set? I have looked at the owners manual and I have not figured it out. I searched for "ATSC" and for "digital tuner" in the PDF version of my owners manual and did not find either one. If you look up "Symphonic SC313D" on a search engine, you can still buy one. Pretty much a hoax on those diverter boxes. People ran out and bought them thinking that won't have reception. I have many years in maintenance and several years in nursing homes with different tv's in every room. Not once have I needed a box to pick up channels with or without cable. I myself get 16 channels with rabbit ears and thats enough for me. And I do own a combo as well and it has simple antenna and does me just fine. Depending on your location, the old tv antennas we use to put on our houses...they work amazing! Might be able to snag one on a freecycle or craigslist site. Good luck! :)

I would say yes. You need to buy a converted box. So you can pick up the digital signal. If you had cable or other services that you paid for. You would have to do nothing. Good luck and HAPPY TV watching to you!

Digital is picked up on every tv with an antenna? Never had to buy a converter box? No one in my family has either. Those boxes were returned to Wal Mart, Radio shack etc right after everyone realized it was just another plot to make you buy something you dont need. Just an FYI, in case you want to know. :)

Find code for symphonic tv remote

very few if any universal remotes will work on Symphonic which is also Funai and some other brands.

Look on Ebay or Google the model number of the set with the word remote, remember not a universal.

What is the code for DISH Network remote on a Symphonic SC313E 13 in. TV/VCR Combo?

I hope that after all this time, you were able to find that code. But if you weren't, or you still have some questions, here are some steps and codes.

1. Hold down the clear TV button until all lights light up at the top of the remote
2. Punch in a 3 digit code (provided below)
3. Press the # (POUND) button
4. Try powering the tv on/off, and the volume. If one or more of these functions do not work, start over from step 1 with a different code

Here is the manual: http://www.symphonic.us/pdf/om/SC313D.pdf Follow the instructions for connecting a cable box to connect your converter box. Front panel buttons can be used to make menu selections if you do not have a remote.

DTV Converter hookup

Is it possible to record TV programming on a VCR when using a DTV converter? h1 = document.getElementById("title").getElementsByTagName("h1")[0];h1.innerHTML = widont(h1.innerHTML); Hi,

I had the same problem and found this answer that worked for me. Hope this does the trick for you.

Simple stated, your VCR must be set to channel 3 also. Check it out.

woody

  1. You must have the VCR tuned to record on channel 3.
  2. You must have the VCR connected to output signal of the DTV converter box. In other words, the converter box must be connected between the antenna and the VCR. So, the likely configuration you would use with a coaxial cable is antenna to DTV converter to VCR to TV.
  3. You must tune the DTV converter to the channel you want to record prior to recording. The VCR won't be able to change channels on the DTV converter.
  4. You will be able to use the timed record function on the VCR but you must adhere to steps 1-3.
If this sounds freakishly familiar to recording on a digital cable or satellite set-top box, you are right. It is exactly like recording a signal from a digital cable box or satellite receiver. While it may be inconvenient to perform the steps above, at least the option still exists to record on a VCR while using a DTV converter box.
Disadvantage of DTV Converter: You will lose the ability to watch one program and record another with the DTV converter. Sorry for the bad news.
The reason is the tuner. The VCR tuner is useless with digital except for recognizing channel 3. The digital converter is a single tuner item so it only receives one station at a time.
