I have a 2 year-old Mitsubishi 1080 series that won't turn on. The TV already has a history of turning off all by itself for no apparent reason. When this happens, it shuts itself off, the little green power light blinks for about a minute, and when it stops blinking I can turn the TV back on. The owner's manual says this is caused by AC power surges.
Well, now the blinking green power light has returned, but it won't stop blinking, so the TV can't be turned on. I've tried pushing the TV's reset button -- no help. I've unplugged the TV for awhile, but only get the blinking light when I plug it back in.
Am I missing something, or is this something easy to fix, or do I need to call in the repairman.
Thanks!
The TV cut off by itself and when I try to turn it back on I get sound and no picture and the green light blinks and the TV shuts off.
I could be wrong. Jerry probably knows more than I do, but...
Sounds like the typical DM Capacitor issue. Search for 'Mitubishi blink green capacitor' and you will see a probable solution. This is very common. The solution takes about an hour and $5 in parts. You need to solder or find someone who does. I fixed two Mits 73" TVs WS-????? with this problem.
There is a failure in the scan amplifiers, and or the power supply. This will require trouble shooting by an experienced TV tech who has access to the service manuals and know the set.
There are many components in the set that can cause this type of failure.
Did you not take an extended warranty???
This type of repair is not low in cost to have done.

when set turns off and green power light goes out: on the front of the set press and hold both the menu and input (device) buttons at the same time for at least five seconds and let both go.
Power light will blink a two digit error code like 2 blinks, 2 blinks, a pause and repeat it for a total of 5 times.
This is the error code and indicates where the problem may be---let me know what code you find and I will tell you what it means.
Have you acessed the power indicator error code by pressing in the menu and input buttons on the front of the set both in together and hold in for 5 seconds? The led will blink a series of blinks to indicate a 2 digit code which will repeat several times. Let me know what the blink seqience is.
LOOKING AT THE AGE OF THE TV IT MIGHT HAVE DRY JOINTS ON PCB,S SO IF U KNOW ABOUT ELECTRONICS AND GOT SOLDERING IRON RESOLDER SUSPECTED SOLDER JOINTS AND THEN TRY.
This tv have a problems known as a covergenece problems,it dead. The tv convergence board must reqiure it 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors to change to solved the covergence problems. The shop will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.
i have the same exact problem. My mitsubishi HD 1080 series suddenly stopped working. when i hit the on button, the on-light goes on for a second and then goes right off. any luck figuring this out?
I believe it is going to be a major repair and I would hesitate to invest much money into it. I think the age of this set is older than 5 years. The VS model series were manufactures before the WS model series and they have been around for 8 years or so. Never the less, parts availability is getting tougher. If your pain thresh hold is 300.00 or 400.00
go for it. If not, check out new sets.
Hope this helps,
