Your battery is losing voltage too quick. It has probably developed a 'memory'. Dyson claims that their handheld has the best suction out of all the handhelds out there. In order to maintain that claim the circuit board will shut off power to the motor when the voltage drops below adequate charge for full suction.
We need someone who can teach us to bypass that part of the circuit so it won't cut power to the motor or you need to get a new battery.
Shorting the battery like an Aircraft battery then re-charging won't fix it.

It will not hold a charge. Been plugin for days at a time then it will run a minute then stop

Hello Karen, It sounds as though may have a bad battery or the charger is shutting down before the battery gets fully charged.

Had this Hoover Model# UH 71214 for 14 months, use it once a week in my Condo. all of a sudden it shuts off, will come after 30 minutes, but then shuts off again after about 10 minutes. I clean it aft

Many people are not seeing the washable filter at the top of the vacuum cleaner. You can't see it until you open it. This will cause the vacuum to overheat and shut down when not cleaned.

My dirt devil keeps shutting off randomly

It's overheating. Empty the cup and replace the filters. There's a breaker that opens up and turns it off when it gets too hot. When it cools down it closes back up and it will run again. It'll argue with you til the end of time or until you fix the problem.

Good Luck

Why does my DC17 Animal vacuum keep shutting off?

Hi Emmeline,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. From what you've described, it sounds as if the thermal cutout feature is shutting the machine down to prevent overheating. If you've already tried washing the filter and are still experiencing the issue, I'd encourage you stop using the cleaner and to contact us directly so we can help. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON, or email [email protected]. We'll look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Jack

The vacuum cleaner works for a few minutes then shuts off. After a few minutes it will start again, but soon shuts off again.

There may be as many as three air filters in the vacuum. Remove and thoroughly clean all of them and try again.

After from ten to fifteen minutes of use it automatically shuts down but will sstart up again after fifteen minutes.

It sounds as if the motor has overheated at some point and damaged the thermal protector in the motor. Be sure all the filters are clean before operating the vacuum. If it continues to shut down, the thermal protector will need to be replaced. ( Part # 28382093 ) This is a very common problem with bagless vacuums, if the main filter is not cleaned after every vacuuming.

Keeps shutting off

You cant clean the HEPA filter.. only the blue washable pre filter.

Sounds like the motor is dead or atleast on its way out.

If you visit http://www.sparesaver.com/help-and-support/dyson-section/dyson-technical-advice-450/ they have alot of info on repairing dyson cleaners AND they sell the parts, cheapest ive seen online.

Hope that helps

I have a red c velvet. My vacuum keeps shutting

Could be you have a filter issue and it is overheating and shutting itself off. Make sure you have not put on the wrong filter type for the machine. Some of the pieces that come in the FJM boxes are not actually filters and people make the mistake of putting them on as filters. The other major problem that could be happening is that there is some problem with the hose itself. On my vacuum it will shut itself off after 2-5 minutes, but the power light remains on. I have to press the up button to get more suction, but that only lasts until it shuts itself off again. If I unplug the hose from the cannister... the power comes on fully and the vac never shuts itself off.
A tech told me that the likelihood is that there is some component or connection in the hose control that is causing faulty shutdown. He told me I would need a new hose costing $175. After a year of trying different things, I am convinced he is right and we need to bite it and just buy a new hose.

Hoover u5720-900 quits running and restarts again after some time

There is one more filter under where the collection tank & Hepa filter sits -- there is one screw that holds the cover down - remove that filter and clean it that will help. I also find I need to vacuum the hepa filter as well- it is too expensive to replace all the time. The Hepa filter can be placed inside a plastic bag and shaken really good to get the dust off of it
