It is recommended to use CD -R disc to create the firmware update disc.
I hope you're clear with downloading the update from support page.
Once you download and save the file in the folder in the computer, you can double click the file to extract.
You will be prompted to save the UPDATE_BDPS300_VER0550.ISO file in a folder.
Most of the customers will be making mistake here after...
We need to use a burning software which is capable to burning discs from ISO images. ISO image is nothing but a RAW format of burned image.
I will give you the instructions to burn using Nero.. Steps will be almost same in all ISO capable software.
Open installed nero software from computer. You may locate it under Start Menu programs.
Go to File Menu (Some times you will get a wizard where you can select the Image Burning option or burn ISO option)
Navigate the extracted .ISO file we saved in the computer.
follow the onscreen instructions.
Insert the disc when ever Nero asked to insert
Hope this helps. If you need any assistance. Please get back to me. I will be more than happy to assist you. Thanks for understanding.
the firmware is up-to-date and multiple discs (blu ray only) are giving the "can't play" message. Sony tech is of no assistance either. Have a Pioneer Elite player that is doing the same thing with the same discs. Discs are in PRISTINE condition. What else is up? Have all of the companies messed up in all of their firmware updates recently?!?!?!

Maybe it is because your BD player it out of update or it is region-locked. You may not download the update to fix uit. You can also some Blu-ray player programs so that you could play Blu-ray discs on your laptop after installing a Blu-ray drive. You could try Leawo Blu-ray Player which is a free program.
SOURCE: blue ray player wont play blue ray ''Kung Fu Panda'' disc.
Unable to play BD-R or BD-RE discs in the Blu-ray Disc® (BD) player.
Solution
The
Blu-ray Disc® (BD) player does not support BD-R and BD-RE discs right
out of the box. However, a free firmware update is available that will
provide compatibility with BD-R and BD-RE discs recorded in the BDMV
format.
If your computer is equipped with a DVD burner and compatible burning software, you can download the update from the Drivers & Software
section of the Sony® eSupport Web site and then burn your own update
disc on a DVD-R or DVD-RW disc. If you do not have the capability of
downloading and burning your own firmware update disc, you can register
the BD player online at http://www.productregistration.sony.com/
and a firmware disc will be sent to you automatically; the shipping and
receiving time for the disc is approximately 7-10 days via U.S. mail.

SOURCE: won't play a new blu-ray video
I bought a Sharp BD-HP20S and got Stargate Continuum to play on it, only problem was it wouldn't.
Had bad pixilation, jumping picture and stuttering sound.
Went onto Sharp's website and followed the instructions for downloading and burning a firmware update cd (or usb stick).
Made an update cd, put it in and within 5 minutes the update was over.
Result?
Prefect picture and sound.
Really simple and easy to do.
If you don't want to make a cd yourself Sharp will send one out to you if you contact them.
