When we go to turn off our T.V., the magic focus comes on and the T.V. won't turn off. Then, after the magic focus is through, it goes back to the channel we were watching, except with no sound. If we push the remote "on" button again, we get the same channel with sound. If we go to turn it off, we start all over again with the magic focus coming on. The blue light won't go off and we hear no click. We've changed the batteries in the remote and it still won't work. Can you help me?

Convergence issues usually resolved by changing convergence output amplifier IC's.....Original STK392-110 should be replaced
with upgrade Stk394-160E Hitachi part # CZ 01341,change both
for reliability.....check B+ feed resistors for over-heating....T.

it sounds like your blue convergence ic is getting weak you need to replace the ic's STK392-110 and you should replace both because when 1 is bad the other will go real soon. They are inexspensive at the sight I posted and you will also get free tech online support if you purchase them there.

Your problem is the convergence circuit. This is very common in CRT projection sets like yours. There are a couple of IC's that need to be changed and possibly some resistors. A good repair shop will run you $400-$500 to do the repair.
SOURCE: magic focus 4 error
Error 4 is listed as an overflow in the convergence section.
To fix:
1. Check the placement of the sensor
2. perform an Adjustment check of th H/V size & centering
3. Conv. amp. gain check, check these resistors:
R041, part # 0790024R, RES.CHIP 1/16W 100 OHM
R046, part # AQ00164R, RES.CHIP 1/16W 75 OHM TAPE
R050, part # 0790059R, RES.CHIP 1/16W 47K OHM
R058, part # 0790054R, RES.CHIP 1/16W 18K OHM
R062, part # 0790047R, RES.CHIP 1/16W 5.6K OHM

I'm having the same problem, but with the 46" version of the TV. It just started tonight.
