Marathon SQ washer buzzes instead of giving cold water, and has a grinding sound when agitating and spinning, and finally filled w/ some water after being turned off. Buy another used one? To think the young apartment couple wanted $140, they went down, and after buying the pair for $100 and $20 for my friend to transport it, I'm disgusted.

SOURCE: Speed queen Marathon top loading washer-

The problem is the water inlet valve has failed. There is a video on checking this at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html it's a different model but the testing procedure will be the same.

I have a Whirlpool Gold washer (MOD# GSQ9669LW0). The washer makes a grinding noise below when in operation. Spins when agitating, but not in rinse mode. Water still pumps out in final spin.

This machine can get items stuck in the drum, the bearings can go bad etc. https://www.repairclinic.com/RepairHelp/How-To-Fix-A-Washing-Machine/38-5-620929-/Whirlpool-Washer-won-t-spin-GSQ9669LW0.

Washer buzzes and won't agitate or spin. Only will fill with water.

Almost certainly with that sound, the motor start capacitor has failed. It will be located either behind the control panel, or underneath next to the motor.

My washer buzzes when knob is pulled but it will spin just not fill or agitate

sounds to me like either the water faucet at the wall is shut off or their is some sort of restriction to the pipes not allowing the washer to fill
some on here may say that the buzzing will be the motor but since it spins i say bully to them the motor only knows to go to spin or agitate rotation based on on what the timer/control tells it to do if it will turn one direction it would turn the other direction as well. So definently check the water supply to the washer
Oh the buzzing is the solonoid on the valve opening the valve yet since no water coming in you hear the buzzing while you wouldnt hear it since it would be drowned out by the sound of the water coming in

My GE washing machine just buzzes instead of filling with water, spin and agitate work fine.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
Providing that the water supply is OK with no kinks or squashed hoses and the taps are fully turned on, this is symptomatic of a malfunctioning water control valve- the hot water one if the washer is hot and cold fill, and the cold one if it is just cold fill!
Sorry but it needs replacing and a service call to confirm that it is not something else ;-0(
Good luck,

My washer fills and agitates, but when it gets to the rinse/spin cycle it stops and makes a loud grinding noise. Thanks for your time

If it doesn't drain the water after the wash cycle and the sound is more like a buzz then the first thing that I suggest you check is the lid switch. If the lid switch is damaged then the machine will not pump the wash cycle water out and it will not go into the subsequent cycles. The "grinding" or buzzing sound can be caused by an intermittent signal reaching relay switches or solenoids.

Roper washer RAX4232PQO doesn't agitate or spin

It sounds like you may have a broken motor coupling. This is a common problem that usually occurs through normal wear and tear. Replacement couplers are more resilient and resist breaking much better. If the washer will fill, will not agitate or spin, but will still drain, these are the symptoms of a broken motor coupling. The accompanying noise of the motor engaging and a rattling/grinding sound is also a common symptom. This is a very simple and inexpensive repair. The following link explains step-by-step how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_whirlpool_top

The part number is included in the link I provided. You can purchase a replacement on line at appliancepartspros.com for about $11.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: Roper is manufactured by Whirlpool and uses Whirlpool parts, so these instructions will apply.

Won't finish the final spin

Hi there,

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Post further comments for more information ....

Good Luck!!

Thanks
