LG RH289H DVD Recorder Unknown Disc. Please check disc again.

My LG RH289H DVD Recorder displays a message Unknown Disc. Please check disc again. everytime I put in a DVD. It plays CD's fine, but as soon as I put a DVD in the message comes up and ejects the disc. It is still under warranty but I can't find the receipt. Any solutions please.

Same problem - plays cds but won't accept even pre-recorded dvds

I have the same problem. I think LG's only have a 13 month life span, just so the warranty runs out.

I have the same problem, it wont read any disk and hangs up for a long time. I am seriously dissappointed with this product and suggest that nobody purchase an LG, I have had many problems with their products. Maybe if someone can suggest some sort of solution, I have tried putting the disk back in, but still no luck.

I have the same problem with the RH278 recorder. Very disappointed and frankly, quite irritated, as I had it fixed once before for exactly the same thing! Now it just sits there, dead to the world...and to me. I despise it. Please help! It cannot be swopped for a new one, store policy.

I have had the same problem a few times. All I do is eject and re-insert the disk until it recognises it, this seemed to work for me

I have a Sony DVD recorder player RDR-GX257. Player works fine. Disc recorder stopped working....

1. If your Sony DVD recorder player RDR-GX257's disc recorder has stopped working, don't despair! There are a few things you can try to get it up and running again.

2. First, check to see if the disc recorder is properly connected to your TV and to an electrical outlet. If everything is plugged in correctly, try pressing the "Reset" button on the back of the DVD recorder.

3. If the reset doesn't work, try unplugging the DVD recorder from the power outlet for a few minutes, then plug it back in. This sometimes clears any glitches that may be causing the problem.

4. If the DVD recorder still isn't working, it's possible that the disc itself is the problem. Try inserting a different disc into the player and see if it will play. If it does, the first disc was probably the issue. If the second disc doesn't play either, then the problem is most likely with the DVD recorder itself.

5. If you've tried all of the above and the DVD recorder still isn't working, you may need to take it to a repair shop or contact Sony customer service for further assistance.

What is the settings for playback?

There are no specific settings for playback on this machine?
If the lazer does not read discs and the display shows NO DISC or UNKNOWN DISC then the lazer pick-up needs replacing.
I believe that the lazer pick-up for this LG recorder has been discontinued?

Returns error message :Unknown Disc. Please Check Disc Again" The DVD disc plays on other DVD players with no problem.

Problem may be reset needed, or lens need cleaning, or dvd recoreder worn out. Reset is pull the plug from the wall for 5 minutes. Turn it back on after reset to load firmware again, may work after that.. TDK makes lens cleaner. LG uses fan so, dirt can get into dvd recorder lens. If the tray moves out wiggly, laser assembly may move wiggly too. Replace dvd recorder which is a dvd+-rw regular ide unit from computers.

When initializing disc receive message on screen saying 'Unknown disc, Please check disc again'

When you have had a dvd_rw in your computer; your LG won't except them anymore. In the next steps I'll show you how to solve that problem
first take a new (unused dvd_rw)
Initalize the new dvd_rw in your LG.
write " LG master dvd_rw" on it and put it in a safe place.
when you've a dvd'_rw used in your computer but you want to burn something from your LG on it take next steps

take the master LG and put it in your computer
start Nero or an other burning program
choose disc copy and copy the master to the used dvd_rw.
when done , take the copy and put it in the LG.
this time the LG will exept the copy.
Put the master LG again away

good luck
