You need to replace the Y scan board. Sadly, all of the PL4260 models have the same problem... its just a matter of time before it blows. HP has offered a "free fix" but only to those sets that fall with in their so called serial range of those with faulty parts. Like I've said in another post... I called HP yesterday (3 December 08) and they admitted to having used sub standard parts in all of the PL4260 models, not just the serial ranges they (HP) stated.

HP isn't going to fix yours.... and I'm willing to bet your serial falls 1-3 digits outside of the "free fix" serial.

Solution: you will need to purchase TNPA3243AB-PA and TNPA3242-PA to fix your issue. Or you can go ahead and let HP come out and fix your tv for $700+ The difference, you order the parts and fix it yourself...$250-300 plus your time and effort.... you pay HP $700+ for their tech to order the same part from the same distributor, and they put it in for you... either way, you're not getting a warranty or at least thats what they told me....

Sorry, didn't see that you have a Samsung... however I'm sure you have the same issue... "You were watching a show and all of a sudden you hear a sizzling noise followed by a "pop"... the screen went black but you can still here everything fine... yea thats the Y scan board.... not sure what part# you are going to need but I'm sure you can call Samsung and get the exact part numbers to fix it yourself...

50 inch samsung plasma that is 3 years old occassionally gets a black bar across top half of the screen. is this tv done?

not necessarily, sometimes the connectors that feed the screen get old and dirty

If you have some electronic skills, open the TV and clean the connectors around where you see the symptoms and you may have a good chance to get if fix by doing that...

LG PLASMA TV WITH COLOURED LINES OVER SCREEN

If the Video (Picture/Pix) is gone but you can hear the Audio (sound), then it could mean the YSUS PCB Assembly is gone/kaput/finish. Can replace the PCB, not repair the PCB due to timing circuitry involve. Cost maybe roughly $500 depending where you located. The PCB is located on the left hand side of your TV when you are facing the back (Back open). Might find 3-4 brown flex membrane connecting to the plasma panel. The PCB has a silver or black aluminum heatsink (big) on it.
Good Luck.

Verticle lines on screen

This is a very easy fix. Your cable box is not grounded correctly. To fix this you need a AC Plug adapter. This will change your TV ac plug from a 3 wire to a 2 wire. This may sound funny, but trust me on this. I have fix a lot of TV in NY doing just this.24001fc.jpg
