Question about Starbucks Barista Quattro Coffee Maker

2 Answers

Every few weeks, my 4-cup Starbucks Barista Quattro coffee maker overflows. It seems that the water either flows into the basket too rapidly or out of the basket too slowly. The basket overflows, and liquid and grounds go everywhere. Cleaning the coffee maker doesn't really seem to help.

There is a flaw in the design of the Quattro that affects some users more than others. The gap between the outside cap of the carafe and the inside moving cover is suppose to work as a vent to allow pressure to escape. On some units, the tolerance is very small which allows condensing steam to create a seal in the gap once it turns back into water. This creates a high pressure "bubble" in the cap which then doesn't allow the coffee to enter the carafe.

A simple solution is to drill a small 1/8" hole at the top of the inverted cone in the cap. That allows the pressure to escape. I suppose you could put the hole anywhere at the top of the cap and it should work the same.

If your in a hard wayter area the basket overflow valve may be need cleaning. Fill with white vinegar and run a full cycle. Rinse by running 2 or 3 cycles with clean water. You may need to repeat the vinegar cycle if the problem persists.

Need lid for starbucks barista aroma grande 12 cup carafe.

The exact same lid is on the Wolfgang Puck WPTPCM010 coffee maker. (It's exactly like the Starbucks one - same size & fit.) Call (800) 275-8273 and order part # WPTPCM010-6; the product description is "LID FOR CARAFE". It will cost you $4.99 + 5.00 shipping. My Starbucks coffee pot works PERFECTLY again. Just make sure that you put the lid on the carafe correctly before you use it, since the seal is new.

RE Starbucks Barista Aroma Grande Coffee Maker - the part that holds the coffee basket has a spring and a rounded ball-like plug in the bottom that presses down a button on the top of the coffee caraf. ...

Hello Tjreindl,

That is just to keep the machine from spilling COFFEE
all over the place if the OPERATER yanks out the

(before it is done...
(About as smart as fast frying BACON... *****)).

In the OLDEN DAYS... (when life was simpler)
we just let the machine finish making coffee...
THEN pull out the CARAF.

I like strong coffee... Steeping is part of the
BREWING...Tastes a little more like COFFEE
rather than just BROWN water.

(No point in drinking a quart of water
just to have a cup of coffee).

But hey... It's your money.

Inside of carafe changing color -- is it still safe to use? (have been using it for 6 years)

The owners manual with our "12 cup Barista aroma grande" recommends cleaning the unit with a cleaner / descaler that you can buy at Starbucks, or 6 cups of a 50-50 vinegar-water solution, or 6 cups of a 50-50 lemon juice (no pulp!)-water solution. You have to then run a whole pot full of water through to rinse the unit. My wife cleans it once or twice a year with the Starbucks cleaner, and the staining comes off the inside of the pot (you may have to do it more than once with a 6-year deposit). The coffee also tastes better afterwards - less heavy and oily, more crisp and flavorful.
