Are you installing the printer on a new computer? The installation disc is probably for an older OS and the new computer's OS needs a different installer.

The software and drivers for supported OS versions are available here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=445478&lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=445476&taskId=135 . Select your OS from the list.

For some OS versions, the appropriate driver is in the OS (for example Windows 7). In that case, connect the USB cable from the printer and the computer. Allow the OS to find the driver. (For Windows, you may have to open the Windows Update panel (Start > All Programs > Windows Update). Have the program search for available updates. Then install the update (check in the Optional Software as well as the Important Updates).

You can not install any CD disk if you have Windows 7 then you are going to have to find the right software driver for this, there is not a lot of driver been made for the windows 7 printers yet.
They are still seling the printers with the XP drivers CD whitch is not any good for the new win 7 or Vista.

vista can not work on those older systems. change it to xp-os, then re-load the printer driver software.
