Washer filled up and then stopped. Now when we try turning it on all it does is buzz or humm! help please i have a large family with lots of clothes! lol
If you open the lid, does the humming stop? If so that means your lid switch is good, the hum is from you motor, which means your transmission is messed up. You need a service call.

The limit switch that detects that the lid is closed is probably defective. You've already probably experienced how the agitator would stop if the lid was opened when the machine was working properly--same thing.
If you are neither spinning nor agitating and you can hear the motor running (humming or buzzing) the the problem is with the coupling. See the first link below to repair.
If the motor does not run, only fills, no drain, no buzz no hum then the problem is most likely with the lid switch, see the second link. There is video near the bottom of that page showing how to replace it. Let me know if this helps.
bad points in timer or bad motor take the motor out and to a used washer shop and see if they will test it for you for a small fee if it tests ok get a timer
i would make sure the water valves are turned on, the first thing the washer wants to do is fill. the humming noise is probably the inlet valves opening.
No belt on your machine. Sounds like motor coupler that joins motor and transmission is broken. Very inexpensive part but a few steps involved in getting machine disassembled Look up YouTube video on replacing motor coupler on Whirlpool washer.
