Dryer is not coming on. It seems that the timer is good, but am questioning the fuse that is by the lint pipe. How do you get to that?

Dryer gets hot on the outside of machine

Clean the lint out of the pipe that goes out side, also the grate on the outside, If that dosent do it take the back off and see where the lint comes out, take that apart and clean the lint out. I have had this problem before and just recently. The dryer has a saftey fuse, when the dryer gets too hot to shut off, thats why your clothes are not drying. 1st try the pipe that goes outside including the end(outside).

Replaced both the high limit fuse and the nonresetable fuse, and cleaned out all lint trap duct and pipe and still will not heat up.

Make sure the heater element was not open or shorted.
Check all components with wires removed to prevent ghost feed.
At least one wire anyway. If it runs but does not heat then the non re-setable fuse is fine. Usually the small limit on top of the heater housing is open. It pops open when the ducting is clogged going outside. If all of that is good and you have 220 volts going to the terminal block then the next thing to check is the timer. Find the heavy red wire on the timer. It is connected to the heater element.
Simply remove that wire (with dryer unplugged) and check from that point to any other terminal on the timer. If you cannot get a reading from any other point on the timer (while slowly turning it to all cycles) then the contact inside the timer that carry's the load from the heater element is burnt. You would need a new timer if that was the case.

My dyer wont heat and timer wont move changed the thermal fuse and cleaned all the lint out of the blower box and put in new venting pipe

Make sure you have 240 going into the dryer. If one side of the breaker is tripped it is posible for the dryer to run because the motor runs on 120 volts ac. The heat uses 240 volts. Next check the heavy red wire coming out of the timer. Remove it from the timer and attach a lead from an ohm meter to that leg on the timer. See if you can get a reading from any other leg on that timer. Move the dil to various spots on the timer and keep checking for continuity. If you cannot get a reading from that terminal to any other terminal on the dryer then you have a bad timer.
I did a few homemade movies today and posted them on my youtube channel:

Maytag Neptune Gas Dryer MDG 5500Aww Dryer runs and heats when cold, then after about 5 minutes the flame cuts off, after a few minutews, the ingiter glows red, but the flame does not come on again unless...

Hi!!

I seems like you have a plugged up filter and/or an obstruccion in the exhaust hose/pipe.

Remove and clean lint filter, also remove exhaust hose/pipe from back of dryer and remove any lint accumulated. Check also the exhaust hole in the dryer.

Don't forget to rate this post. Good Luck!!

Maytag performa elecric dryer blows thermal fuse after 20 loads

you need to clean out the dryer and the vent line, the air isn't moving like it should, there is a block some where and when it heats up hotter than it should it pops the thermal fuse,if you have a long run on the vent line blow it out with a leaf blower,go outside and make sure nothing is blocking the air flow, some outside vents have cages on them so animals can't climb into the vent line, good idea but now it's a lint catch, the air can't blow out and the thermal fuse pops or the dryer takes forever to dry clothes, then clean out the duct that the lint filter slides into and vac out the inside of dryer where the motor is,you shouldn't have any problems after that, clean it out at least once a year so this doesn't happen again and you won't have any dryer fires, hope this helps, good luck

Kenmore elite 62042 says it is done, but, always requires some more time and seems to be progressing towards longer drying times. the clothes are warm but still damp. started 6-12 mos. ago, 5-10 min extra...

Here are a few more things to look at:

Sometimes blower wheels will get loose in dryers. Sometimes they will get a whole lump of lint in them or you can hear a rattling noise in the dryer, this is the blower wheel, its worn out and it can cause the fuse to blow too,or it can half *** work and take fifty forever's to dry the clothes.Or it could be just that the dryer needs a good blowing out .I use a lawn blower to get all the lint out of the dryer as well as the vent pipe and vent to outside. I take the filter HOUSING out and wash it also. That is, I remove the housing and clean is good! Making sure that the dryer is properly flowing air is a good thing!

Kenmore 88752 - Dryer won't heat

Hi there,

We had the same problem and I pulled the unit out and discovered the dryer lint vent pipe was kinked inside the wall and full of water. It took be a full day of work but I ran a new vent pipe up into the attic and up to a static vent and now the dryer works great.

We had a service guy from Sears come out and he tested the heater strips and said they were fine and suggested I work on clearning the lint vent pipe

It worked great.

Auto dry not working

If there is a dryness sensor, it will be just inside the door, on the bottom right. You can clean the sensor by rubbing the metal bars with a scrubbing pad. This will remove any wax buildup from fabric softeners.
Possible reasons your clothes may still come out wet:
1. The dryer isn't tumbling the clothes.
2. The dryer isn't heating.
3. The airflow is restricted.

From your description, the third seems most likely. If your machine is the one pictured above, inside the dryer door is a plastic grate over the lint screen. Remove the lint screen. Remove the two screws on this grate (Phillips.) Use a vacuum cleaner with a crevice tool to get out as much lint as possible. Be careful to not shove any lint or debris further down into the blower wheel.
Lint can also clog up in the vent pipe. This pipe should be cleaned or replaced anually. Also, check the exhaust vent on the side of the house.

196 degree non resettable thermal fuse

That is the thermal fuse. It must read closed for the dryer to work. You can connect the two wires together to check the rest of the system, but don't run it with them crossed for normal drying. Many times this is an indication that the high limit switch is sticking or the duct is clogged with lint causing a high temp situation.
