How do I change baud rate to 9600 on Epson CX9400Fax?

I am using a Epson CX9400Fax with my VoIP phone. I have been able to send faxes, but I cannot receive faxes. I have changed all the settings as advised, except the baud rate. I cann't get Epson to advise: How do I change baud rate to 9600 on CX9400Fax?

If someone can help me, I would be very grateful! I have spent days trying to get an answer on this.

Thanks!

I am having exact problem. Epson seems to ignore the question. I can't believe they ignored a baud rate change in their engineering in this day and age of digital phone lines and Voip? I have taken everystep there is.

    The answer is:

    It cannot be done!

I finally called Epson and demanded an answer. They were trying to avoid the question again and I told them I didn't need to go through every thing with them again that I only needed an answer to this question. They finally told me that it cannot be done. It only works on their dot matrix. So, I am taking mine back to the store that I bought it and buying one that I can change the baud rate to 9600!

This fax speed is 33.6 or 33600
You can change settings to 14.4 or 14400 but not to 9.6 or 9600.
Under: Fax Settings you have this choices:
Speed Dial Setup
Scan and print setup
Communication
Header and time

Under Communication:
DRD
ECM - error correction put this one: off
V.34 - this one is for speed: on - 34400; off - 14400

  • Anonymous Aug 19, 2008

I found error in my info it should be:

        Press Setup.
Select Fax Settings, then press OK.
            Select Communication, then press OK.
Adjust any of the following settings:

V.34 On (default) - Indicates the speed at which you transmit faxes.
On is 33.6 Kbps and Off 14.4 Kbps.

          More info:

ECM On (default) - Indicates whether you use Error Correction Mode to automatically request retransmission of fax data that is received with detected errors.

DRD All (default) - This feature can be used with a Distinctive Ring Service (Detection)provided by your phone company. With this service, you can have two or more phone numbers assigned to the same line, with each number given a distinctive ring. For example, if you have a phone number for personal calls that's set to ring normally (with a single ring) and a fax number set for a double ring, select Double as the DRD setting. Then the fax system picks up only those calls with a double ring.

Rings to Answer - Indicates the number of rings that must occur before the CX9400Fax Series automatically receives a fax. You may want to change this setting if you have connected a telephone or answering machine.

Dial Tone Detection - When this setting is on, the CX9400Fax Series dials automatically when it detects a dial tone. It may not be able to detect a dial tone when connected to a PBX (Private Branch Exchange) or TA (Terminal Adapter) system. In that case, turn this setting off.

Sending fax

Iam afraid HP Supports VOIP Services, they always says that we do not assure fax in VOIP Service because it is not analog it is digital they always refer to your service provider
Also you can tried reducing the speed of the fax machine
That is> Press Menu/Setup> then scroll toAdvance Fax setup> Then Fax Speed> then Press Ok> And reduce the speed to Slow and then try.

Good Luck

Baud rate

1. Why 9600?

Because you are using a VOIP service it can from time to time lose connection briefly. The slower the speed the less data can be loss do to network congestion. It also gives the error correcting function of the receiving fax a better chance of filling in any lost data.
9600 is a good choice becasue the industry minimum is 9600. This means you will be able to communicate pretty much any fax thats is still tickin today. Raising the speed will get you a faster transfer but will also increase the chance that you are sending data at a faster rate than the recieving fax can send.

2. How to change the baud rate....

Press Menu/Set, 2, 0, 1.
Press ▲ or ▼ to select Basic or
Normal (or High*).
Press Menu/Set.
Press Stop/Exit.
* High is available for FAX-2910, FAX-2920
and MFC-7225 only.
Note
Basic reduces the modem speed to 9600
bps. Unless interference is a recurring
problem on your phone line, you may
prefer to use it only when needed.
Normal sets the modem speed at
14400 bps.
High sets the modem speed at
33600 bps.

Receiving faxes with a Cisco ATA 186

More investigation implies that faxing over VoIP, as I am doing, requires setting the fax BAUD rate to 9600 bps or slower. So does anyone know if it is possible to set the BAUD rate on the Dell MFP 1600n multifunction printers?

CANT SEND FAX THRU VOIP LINE

Make sure baud rate is set to 9600 and error correction mode (ECM) is off. If this does not correct your issue then you may have to contact your provider to adjust your sample rate (packetization). This adjusts the size of the packets and is often a common fix. You may want to run a ping/tracert from command prompt to check for latency and/or packet loss with your ISP. I'm a voip tech and these are the primary fixes for fax issues.
