Cleaning the top

It seems that the top around the burners will never come clean and is very dull in certain spots what do I use?????? its only 6 months old and used 3 times a week please help!

little bumps have formed around the outer edges of each burner. The Stove is brand new and only been used for one week. scraping with a razor blade and the special stovetop creme from Maytag doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can use a straight edge razor blade to scrape these areas. A good paint scraper with a wide blade and long handle works best. When done scraping, finish with a good cooktop cleaner.

How do I replace the receptacle for the heating elements on the stove top.

Typically the light is a function of the selector so as long the position of the knob is to the on position it will be on. in order for the burners to work you'll have to replace the connectors, so full current can go through them. also the self cleaning feature refers to the oven meaning you can lock it, turn it to clean and it will get so hot that the build up on the inside will get flaky and then you can clean it once it cools off. I've never seen one that work that well, but it has nothing to do with the glass there is cleaners that you can "rub" kind of like waxing a car and if you have build up on the glass or burned food you can scrape it with a razor laying flat on the glass and scrape the cleaner around will eventually it will peel off.

The gas is connected on the rear side of the stove but the pilot light is not lit, nor will it light. trying to trouble shoot the problem before deciding to purchase a new oven/range. Also, I remember...

You may have a pilotless ignition.Check around door frames for model #plate.
Also , open broiler door ,turn on oven and look inside . If you see an orange glow appear after awhile, that is the electronic igniter and you have an electronic ignition(no pilot). In this case the top burners use a spark ignition system. If you don,t hear clicking when you turn on a burner your ignition module might be bad.
Easily fixed though.

All 4 burners do not heat up very well or not in red color

I would CAREFULLY investigate that the electrical power is connected correctely. MAYBE you only have 120 instead of 240 on the one that doesn't heat well... OR maybe the element is defective.

If you aren't adept at this you might get a service person to check it out as the voltages are lethal.

The elements should get to a dull red color if correct.

VDSC 365-40, Suspected right side ignitor box bad. Repairman came, obviously didn't know Viking, tore into unit and confirmed bad ignitor box. Estimated $450 to repair. I put in new box myself. Works...

You have to identify the thermocouple by the flame. Some units run sparks constantly to insure that tha flame stays lit. If you see the thermocouple bulb by the flame it is bad and needs replaced (he may have bypassed it also let me know)

It would be helpful if you have a multi meter. Sorry you are having trouble with the repair man. I hope I can talk you through this but if he has made a mess it could be 10 times more work for you. [email protected]

Flashes code F3 (sometimes f5) and beeps

OK. I found the manual your looking at. The serial number label is located at the back left and underneath the cook-top. I am not certain if you can see it by removing the burner and tray, but if not, you can "pop the top" by grasping along the seam at the front of the unit, just above the door. DISCONNECT POWER FIRST!

And, in doing some more looking around, if you have reset the controller using the instructions from the manual (which includes disconnecting power for about an hour), then odds are pretty high it's either the temperature sensor, or the controller. The sensor is cheap, the controller more expensive, but odds are better it's the controller. Replace, or have, both replaced. You'll have essentially a new oven when you do this.

Mid 90's Magic Chef gas stove

hi there,

since you can smell gas, you have a gas leak. i would recomend checking and cleaning the gas valves. if you can hear sparking, that means it's just the valves. sometimes cleaning the rods will fix the problem.

Whirlpool electric stove

The ideal thing to do, would to be to replace the elements themselves. Most heating elements for stoves are universal and can be bought at lowes stores. I found your model number specific burner elements on a supply website for 42.00 each on the 8 inch and 35.95 each on the 6 inch elements. I am almost certain, you'll find these parts at lowes or home depot much cheaper. If this doesn't help, let me know, we will try another route.
