Playstation2slimline HI, our ps2 slim is coming up with the browser/configuration and wont play any disks? Any advice? or do I need to take it to get looked at. I can't hear the disk spinning around either? Can I do anything myself to try to solve this? Any help very much appreciated. Kind regards, Lee

If the disk isn't spinning up at all then the DVD ROM drive is returning an error code to the firmware and will probably need repairing, you can check this simply by closing the lid, counting to ten and opening it again, if the drive is spinning the disk it will still be rotating when you open the lid.

if the disk is still spinning when you open the lid try gently cleaning the laser lens (the little glassy looking dome inside the drive) this is best done with an alcohol-free CD wipe or using an ordinary CD cleaning disk.

You can usually get hold of either or both from your local supermarket these days. **Warning: I have seen people on this site and others advise the use of isopropyl alcohol on the end of a q-tip (cotton bud), THIS IS VERY BAD ADVICE as the laser lens is made of Polycarbonate and isopropyl alcohol will cause it to yellow and even crack!**

It would also be advisable to give the drive a blow out with an air duster, you can get one from your local electronics, plumbing or hardware retailer.

Unfortunately if non of this helps you are realistically going to need to contact Sony to find out about your warranty status and repair options.

I have a playstation 2 slim here. It wont spin the

Is that the only disc you seem to be having the problem with?? If so try getting the disc repair kit and using that. I had the same problem with mine but it was only some of the discs. The ps2 slim can be very sensitive and even the slightest defect in a disc will cause it not to recognize there is even a disc there.

Ps2 slim

Hi i need more info when you put the game in and close draw does it load the game or does it just goto browser like their is no game in if this is the case then the only thing you can try is buying a lense cleaner and run this through your ps2 if this dont solve your problem then the chances are you will need the laser replacing you can get these off well known auction site but the problem is you will need the info on how to calibrate the new laser.
Let me know what actually happens then i can assist you further

New game won't play.

the problem with god of war 2 is the ps2 lasers are not capable of reading the dual layer disks. either wait and get a ps3, change the laser - i just bought on for 3 quid on e bay brand new. the lasers are not designed to be played the amount they are played. the laser is designed to play 20 hours a week but as sony found out he avg gamer will clock up up tp 60 hours a week so the lasers are only lasting 1/3rd of the time they should. plus if they put a good laser in the machine u would one buy 1 ps2 and then 1 ps3. i have burned out 3 ps2's so far lol. just forget the game or wait till its put on platinum as these are single layerd disk
