I have an 86 monte carlo 4.3 efi,,,the car didnt want to start wich i believed were fuel problems.i replaced fuel filter and checked fuel lines to see if clooged.checked out ok so i talked to a mechanic who said the fuel pump might be bad,,,he told me to go under the car with a rubber malet and hit the bottom of the tank while someone tryed to start it and it started and ran fine for a couple of weeks.then i noticed it started idleing funny and stalling,,,also while driving it it didnt want to go id give it gas and it seemed like it would bog down,,eventually stalling and not being able to start back up. i replaced fuel pump and it still wont start,,,could it be the fuel relay are a fuse???

The fuel pump is bad, the electric motor was stuck in a bad position & when you hit the bottom of the tank it made the rotor turn to good spot which allowed you to drive. But make no mistake, the fuel pump is bad!

SOURCE: my 86 monte carlo doesnt

Does it make any sound at all ? If not,it can be an electrical or open circuit. Does it click, click , click, if so it series of clicks means a battery problem or grounding problem. If it only clicks once it is your starter.

SOURCE: '83 Monte Carlo - Miss fire at idle/accel./driving

An intermittent miss at idle that gets worse under load on a carbureted vehicled is almost always an ignition problem. The solution is simple and cheap. Put a new set of spark plugs and ignition wires on it, a distributor cap and rotor could be done as well if has been awhile since they've been done. This is just maintenance. If all of this has been done recently, replace the spark plugs again. They get dropped and cracked all the time in shipping or installation. This will likely solve your problem

SOURCE: 92 Chevy Suburban Electrical Fuel System

Check fuel flter at fuel pick-up intank (looks like a small wire sock). Remove fuel filter and fitting at fuel rail. Blow out fuel lines w/about 35lbs air press. Ck electrical @ relay - should be 4 connectors - one is key on hot/one is always hot/one is ground and last is hot to fuel pump. Good Luck

Where is the fuel filter in an 86 monte carlo ss located

If I'm not mistaken there is a fuel filter in the q-jet carburetor at the line entering the carb. 5\8 size on line and 1" on carb, filter is inside behind large nut.careful there is a spring and possibly a gasket inside.

Replacing water pump on 86 chevy monte carlo

Thats interesting - - the engine should start even if the water pump has been removed.
An 86 model would have a V6 or a V8 engine and both use a distributor, have you checked for spark at the plugs and fuel in the carb or injector ??

99 monte carlo 3.1, starts and idles but stuters and almost stalls if gas is pressed. Suspect fuel prolem. In process of changing filter but of course this original filter was siezed on. Had to cut...

Injectors might be the problem, they may not be pulsing,or need cleaning. You can check the fuel pressure on the rail there is a screw on valve,it is a service port,if there is not one, check it at the fuel filter.

2002 monte carlo fuel gauge doesnt work, pump works ok.

It is likely the fuel level sending unit. I had a customer with an 03 Monte Carlo that the pump went out and the fuel gauge hadn't worked in about a year. We replaced the fuel pump module and it took care of both problems. I believe the sending unit is available separately from the complete module.

My 2000 monte carlo ss with a 3800 engine tends to start and stall about six times befor running, I pulled 3 codes 0108, 0404, and 1404 from the the computer .

I believe the codes are emmission related. I would have the fuel pump pressure checked. The fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator seems to be the failrue. The restarting of the engine several times is making the system build up enough pressure to start running . I would take to a shop to have the fuel pressure checked.

WHERE IS THE FUEL FILTER LOCATED ON A 2001 MONTE CARLO?

Your fuel filter should be located underneath the vehicle, and i believe it is on the drivers side, just before the rear wheel. If not then check the passenger side right near th front of the fuel tank. Hope this helps.

2002 monte carlo ss

The fuel filter is located in the pressure line that runs from the fuel tank to the engine, near to the fuel tank.
Keep the engine off for few hours before replacing the filter, to get rid of some pressure in the lines.
