E1 error code displays when unit is plugged in

I just had the same problem no an hour ago. E1 showed on display, and none of the buttons on the AC worked, not even the power button.

SOLUTION:
In the past, I've noticed that my universal remote sometimes changes something on my AC when I'm trying to change something on the VCR. (My AC is in the living room.

Well, I saw that the buttons on the AC wouldn't work no matter what I do. So I go get my universal remote, press the DVD/VCR mode button at the top, then just start pressing random buttons until something happened. I've got it now. I can control everything on the AC with it:

The remote is a 'One For All' URC-3021B00

The buttons are as follows:
rewind=power on/off
pause= timer on/off
4=low/high
5=temperature up
9=temperature down
8=fan/cool

I'm having the same problem with the HWR08cx7. I called Tech Support at Haier and was told that this error code usually means that the control board thinks that a button is pushed in. The suggested fix was to "play around with the buttons and see if they unstick." The unit is less than 8 months old but the WILL NOT exchange/repair without the original receipt. Every other company honors thier warranty based on the serial number - doesn't matter about the receipt. Haier refused to honor the warranty at all. Will be contacting their corporate office and also the corporate office for Wal-Mart as that is where I purchased the unit. I suggested that Haier put a sticker on the outside of the units warning that they were "disposable" air conditioners . . . and not to expect any quality to the unit at all.

E-1 Ok i just fixed my HWR 08 XC___ these things should work on most all touch panel models. Note some slight skills required. Ok 08= 8,000 btu 06= 6,000btu exct "size"

Mine first started had to be set low and read a lower temp than the room "coils dirty" then week later it showed E-1 and an hour later would trip the plug breaker. Root cause Dirty Coils "evaporator inside" can get ice from reduced air flow making ice n water n throwing drips. when to much of it floods electronics box and faults main to E-1. -drain clean and use remote. ok now to fix other stuff "unplug" remove filter and front cover 2 screws side 2 under filter. Do coils look cruddy ok, sprayed my coils with "gunk engine cleaner" with unit on side so electrics were up and rinsed with thumb over hose for fan spray from two feet away,now though you must first remove the snap in control panel "squeeze tabs and then its metal mount cover for its internal plug 2 screws one is in foam seal then lift and pivot."has tabs" don't wet the electrics or the plug breaker " "see the silver cans in the electric box"capacitors they hold a high voltage charge" stay away. Ok now clean and spray off the rear outside coils. then when done, tilt and and then u must even flip it over till all water is out, "Yeup i got wet too"..now dry electrics for an hour with hair dryer on low and then dry control panel back side on low 15 mins, now exercise touch buttons gently then dry them again. air dry assembled unit a day in sun to be safe
The cause of this "not so fun project" is plain old dirt and water build up a shure sign of this is unit seems to vibrate more or rumble "crud on one side of fans from stopping in puddle when unit is off and drain is clogged or unit not level or slops to inside.
Now with every thing dry, use a ground fault outlet first to test how dry you got it, and have a Firemen and a Paramedic helping you...Now hold the on button and plug it in. "good luck" if no go try any units remote most are quite similar...PS remember the E-1 unit most likely still works fine "Tarzan"

We had this same problem...none of the below helped out. We have a Haier Brand. We were able to start it once but after that the E1 Error wouldn't clear and prevented us from using.

It appears that after 720 hours of use the E1 Error comes up as a reminder to clean the filter the filter. Although as in our case the E1 Error never cleared...below is what helped us out in clearing this code...this was for a Sharp but worked fine for our Haier Brand.

1. Power down the air conditioner using the "power" button on the front
panel.
2. Unplug the air conditioner from the wall socket.
3. Hold the front panel "power" button down and plug the air
conditioner in. Continue to hold the power button down as the machine
goes through a brief test sequence (fan & compressor each come on
briefly, etc). There is a "beep" sound at the end of the test sequence,
and the machine will be off. At this point, you can release the power
button.
4. Unplug the air conditioner.
5. Plug the air conditioner back in.
6. Congratulations! You should now be able to operate the air
conditioner normally for another 720 hours, but only if you followed
the instructions above EXACTLY.

The E1 problem could be as simple as wet wires. If the problem happen after you emptied out water or after you had an ice build up. You may just have some wires that need to dry. Take off the front panel and wait. Then try to plug it in again and test it out. That worked for me

My E-i error was due to water in the control panel/ Like the top post, the trick is some disassembly, take off the interior radiator shroud with filter (two screws on sides), clean the fins, why not since you are in there. unscrew the circuit board. bust out a hair dryer and dry things off. real good! remember to push the buttons while using a hair dryer, the water is inside the buttons after all. after 15 minutes and a couple of trial plug-ins, things were back to normal. Woot! reassemble and enjoy. -B

I brought one of those giant universal remotes from kmart. although the thing didnt work for my direct tv receiver, the DVD function controlled my haier air conditioner perfectly. I got the e1 error early this morning, 7/24/2008 and with the 10 bucks i spent on the piece of **** that didnt work the way i wanted it too, it saved me a lot of time and trouble. Also, some cheap universal remotes (with some tinkering with the codes) can be compatible with air conditioners. Try it, or you can take the thing apart or pay 10x the amount for it to be fixed. JUST HAD THE SAME PROBLEM,I WAS GO NUTS.JUST USE THE REMMOTE, IT FIXED THE PROBLEM.

I had same problem with E1 showing up and disabling the touch pad .I took front cover off and unsnapped the touch pad from frame of AC and took out the 5 mounting screws and CHECKED each of the switches to make sure that they free ,while disassembled I plugged it back in to see if that cured the problem and IT DID , I reassembled touch pad assembly then cleaned the dust off fins and cover .I guess I am good for another 720 hours of COLD AIR . I cleaned my Haier unit today for the first time since purchasing it in 2002. I've been having issues in the past few weeks w/ water leaking out of the unit & a knocking noise that would come & go. When I tried to turn it on, it would not do anything. After reading some of the above tips, I took it apart again and used a hair dryer & made sure there was no moisture whatsoever in the unit. I tried it again & it works like a charm. I know they usually last 5-10 years, so I'll consider having mine for 14 years a success. And I will now complete yearly maintenance until it dies in me.

More on the E1 error: When I opened up my Haier ESA412K-L (12,000 BTU) for its annual de-bugging, instead of one dead roach I found two live ones! (This is the original "bug in the machine," at least in computer legend.) I've had this problem with electronic controls before, and generally brushing off loose roach parts and maybe spraying a little contact cleaner does the trick. This time, after spraying the contact cleaner and scrubbing the "wire" side of the board I added a little Raid bug poison. Bad idea: The Raid is conductive, AND it gums up the board. More contact cleaner, still E1. After taking the board out and cleaning the component side and a couple more similar rounds, I unplugged it and got it under a strong light. I found little streaks left by the Raid and the toothbrush (verifying they were ON the "printed" wires rather than gaps in them by scraping), and also several other little areas that looked suspiciously like roach droppings across two or more conductors. After several more squirts of contact cleaner and meticulous scrubbing of dirty areas with a Q-tip, I reinstalled the board and it worked normally. My unit does not seem to require plugging it in while holding the Power button in. Chances are, most of these units work very similarly, and I know from experience that roaches like circuit boards, though I don't know why. None of this requires any real technical knowledge, just caution, contact cleaner, and very careful cleaning on both side of the board.

When i strat my air condetioner its not work its just show E1 error

I have a haier air condintioner that fits in my window i dont have the problums listed above .. i got this air condtioner from my grandpa. he lost the remote to it and without one all yoy can do is turn the thing off and on..when i turned it on, its on a fan setting and low speed. i really want to get it to go high speed and on cool. there anrt any other butten but then power switch, im a girl and dnt have a clue on how to go about fixing it so if any one has any suggestions please let me know.

Hi all. I had the same exact problem with the E1 message and the power button sticking. None of the buttons on the AC now work - the reset button and test button did not work. HOWEVER for some reason, that remote control turns it on! You've got to find that remote, it seems to be the only way. So weird.

Heres what i did just got the problem 'E1' after a power outage. Hold ALL the buttons in on the panel for a few seconds and then use the remote to switch things, after that it should work. Or it worked for me....I also punched it a few times

I had same problem. Using the remote powered it on.

Haier Customer Support indicated to me that an E1 code indicates an internal electrical problem.

They told me to return it to the store for an exchange.

This won't fix it but try using the remote.

The Universal remote thing above works. I Have a remote Given to me by my cable provider. The provider is mediacom. I don't know how in the world this happend but all the controls listed above worked.

Take the control panel (red) one and plug it back in and then you will have power again..
