The airport hardware is not recognized after the mac was dropped. How can this be fixed?
I say it'd be more likely that the airport card shifted in the socket. I could be wrong but take a look. I'm not sure if it's true on the 12" models, but on all the others, there is a cover in the battery compartment that hides the airport. Take it out and put it back in. My 17" powerbook took a 4ft drop to the asphalt late last year and it came out with only a few small scratches. You might also try swapping the airport card with another one just to verify if the slot is good.
My friend just had this problem. I took out the battery and pulled out the airport card. I pushed it back in and it did no good. The computer was ON at the time. I was watching the icon at the top to see if the bars would show up on the wireless. After doing this about three times the Powerbook shut off. I thought I might have damaged something, but when I rebooted the airport card was working fine. I think the connections get little wonky when it is dropped. I'm a paranoid freak about my laptops and I have never had this problem. I've never dropped mine, but I guess accidents happen. Anyway, so far-so good with the airport card working.

ScottyFixit, well said! This has happened many times, even traveling with your mac, the airport card gets moved around. If your comfortable, take a peek and make sure its sitting properly... I usually clean it and the contacts while Im in there, but whatever your comfortable doin...
I have done exactly the same with mine and i knocked the network ca
rd and it cant find the airport software im reluctant to take it out as i have not dealt with mac intieriors any ideas?
Cracked solder joint most likely or worse. These can be a royal pain to track down but weve repaired more complex. How old is the unit?

I got the mac in 2004. Its the Powerbook G4 12" notebook. It was dropped about a foot and a half high landing on carpet, similar to the other postings. Is it safe to try and repair by opening the hatch under the keyboard?
